I just dont like animals......

in the house, that is........

My niece and her husband just spent a huge sum of money having and exterminator come in to their house and bomb the hell out of the house, for fleas......they have two cats and a dog.......and had to take all three to the vets for a special flea dip...

Her husband had to go to the doctor for an antihistamine because he had so many flea bites on him

the fleas were everywhere, even in the mattress and pillows where they sleep.. the cat lays up in their bed, licking his privates and everything else..God that is so DISGUSTING....

I like animals, but have never wanted them in the house where i live.....and their experience just confirms that.....

those of you with animals in the house, how do you keep the bugs at bay??????

I think they gave their animals flea treatments but their house got infected......

it grosses me out just thinking about it

i have an indoor cat.. he never goes outside unless to the vet or trips to see the family.
i've never had an issue w/ fleas, bugs, critters, whatever. hell, my place doesn't even smell like a cat's litter box b/c i clean it daily.
largely, it depends on the owner & their willingness to habitually clean/take care of the pet(s).

1 dog (long hair gsd) and a long hair cat... no fleas, never had them. The cat spends a lot of time outdoors and the dog has the free run of the yard but is indoors most of the time. Both get monthly treatments of flea stuff on their backs.

If you're not a pet person, that's cool. Your house, your rules. Our dog is part of our family and our first line of defense. I'll deal with the fleas if/when it happens. If you child came down with an ailment, what would you do?

I spray the yard once or twice a year and never have an issue with fleas. This is in the suburbs though. I think if I lived in a more rural area I would have to come up with something else.

yeah, i really do love animals and respect people that have them...there is a girl at work who has this dog, and it is like her son......she treats the dog like a human....and i see why people get attached to animals....

i wish i had a place where i could keep a dog outside, and where it would stay warm year round

purchase new:

beds
pillows
couches
fabric covered anything

bug bomb the house

wash all sheets, spreads, and blankets

vacuum the whole house and throw away the bag(s) immediately

remove the carpet (last resort)

my X "rescued" a stray dog last year. I am still fighting ticks. they are out of the house now, but in the yard. next thing to do is spray the yard with critter killer via the hose.

my dogs have been bathed, have collars, and I used the tick and flea drops..don't buy the crap at wally world, buy the good stuff...

I have two dogs and never had a flea problem, sounds like they don't give their pets monthly flea pills or liquid treatments. I've had pet's for 40 years and have never had a flea problem and they have their own dog door and spend lots of time outside as well as in.

For the carpet and upholstery, supposedly powder boric acid works great and is harmless to humans and pets. Just sprinkle it around, let it work for awhile (not sure how long) and vacuum up.
