That's funny. My Walmart had a great deal on 9mm once, and after waiting a while for someone to come over, I told him that I would take all the 9mm they had on hand. He was very skeptical and even called a manager over. I was asked why I needed so much and was about to explain to them how I rob banks, but I decided not to. Well the manager came back from their storage with 2x cardboard boxes of 10 WWB boxes (2000 rounds total) and said that was all they had. When I questioned him, he put up a wall (I could tell he wasn't telling the truth). I said, "Um...can't I have those boxes sitting behind you???" LOL, there was another box behind him. He tried to convince me that that was not 9mm (It said 9mm on the outside of the box and had tape on it). I asked him what it was and he said .45. I said I would take it as well then. Boy was he not happy. He had to open the box and scan the WWB boxes separately, but yes they were 9mm.

I doubt that all they had was 3000 rounds on hand. (Yeah, there was even more in the glass case, but I didn't even bother at this point). It was total BS. I don't know why they even run a gun section when they are such pansies with selling ammo. It took about 30-45 minutes to go through all this hassling, but I got a good price.

strange at the walmart I get my WWB, Ive walked up and bought 1500 rounds and 1000 rounds on seperate occassions. I look really young for my age, high school like despite Im 25, and all they do is ask for ID. No dirty looks, dirty comments, manager call over or anything.

Just think, this is the same company / Department that wants to record and track all purchases.

I guess if you don't sell anything, you don't have to track it!

The real kicker is the ammo display case was open the entire time. A big no no at Wal*Mart. Not just open as in unlocked, but actually ajar. Anyone could have walked behind the counter and grabbed ammo.

we didnt have wally world in detroit since this is Kmart home town (wallmart finally came to detroit about 2002 or so), and we also have Meijers .... but i clearly remeber dozens of times in the 80s and even early 90s going to kmart and Meijers and the ammo just being there on the shelf, un attened.

The sporting goods department at our local Walmart is great. All the staff are shooters (hunters, competition, etc.) and very friendly and efficient. I bought 1,000 rounds of 9mm just a few days ago with no problem whatsoever.

The SG department folks are idiots. I went in last weekend to buy some ammo for my AR. I point to the type I want and say "those 55 grain .223 FMJ's." The idiot behind the counter says "they don't make FMJ's in rifle calibers." I really wanted to educate her, but could actually feel my IQ dropping just standing near her.
Oh, this is the same lady who wouldn't sell me .45's a few weeks ago because "your birthday doesn't match the one on the register." I tried to explain the one on the register is a "cut off" date...she insisted I was wrong and I made her get the manager.

Oh, this is the Wally World in Villa Rica.

Let me tell you I understand how you felt trying to purchase ammo at wallyworld. Last friday I went in to get 150 rds of Blazer Brass .45acp and just like you there's no clerk in sight. But I know the drill so I hump over to Electonics and ask the clerk there to call for help. I race back over to SG's but now there's two other people also waiting. I tried to explain that I was already here and had went looking for help but no one was buying it. So after taking turns going back to electronics and 30mins later, Doris shows up. Doris moved with the speed of a three toed Sloth. By the time it was my turn I swear I almost forgot what I wanted to buy . At Wallyworld it's not a purchase. It's an Adventure!

Not WW, but when I go to Lowes or Home Depot, I rarely push the button on those automated help buttons that announce help is needed in a certain area. I just pick up the phone and call the operator and tell them I need help and to please send someone over. No one has ever given me a bad time for doing so.

Wal Mart's prices on Blazer Brass pistol practice ammo is ten times better than every gun store around me. True, they don't have a huge selection, but for cheapo practice ammo or feeding the 22 rimfire...they have me covered. On weekends, there is always an attendant at the sporting good dept and I pay for everything there and avoid the front checkout madness.

Some love to hate Wal Mart, but if you don't go there, expecting Macy's styled service and don't go during peak times...its not too bad. Like evrything else...you need to learn how to "work" Wal Mart or it will drive you crazy.

Besides..with gas prices what they are....the one stop shopping makes up for the craziness.

This is like one of those tales that old people tell about the olden days. I can't remember the last time I saw the SG guy at walmart. I have to page an employee every time, and the last two times I've had to go to the front and demand that a manager be waiting for me when I get back to the SG dept.
