well that makes two of us then. I lost my transmission this past weekend as well. I am really sorry for your "loss". I will die before I give up my truck though.

I would have just had it fixed. Probably would have cost less than the money you lost selling it. Or bought either a junkyard tranny or a reman tranny and threw it in there.

local guy wanted $1400 to:

remove
rebuild
reinstall

trans...

I already dumped $5000 in to it since I bought it last year.

it was abused badly prior to my ownership.

I still had another $3000+ to go till it was top notch mechanically.....not including paint and body

the trans was the straw that broke the camels back.

this will allow time to recover financially with less insurance and fuel out put.

I do have to build another motor for the baja as mentioned afore.

What are you planning on building for it? I've been out of the air cooled game for a while but you never fully recover from the bug.

Agreed! I love the Cummins motor, but hate the Dodge/Chrysler trannies. Someone should come up with an Allison conversion kit

I've always liked the 727, but I agree with you there. If I could have a truck with a Cummins/Allison combo, I couldn't beat a path to the dealership's door fast enough.

It's funny, but the tranny on my 1996 2500 Cummins never gave me trouble and I had 225K miles on it when I sold it. It was one of the few things that didn't give me a problem.

The rear end was rebuilt twice, I went thru 3 radios, a roll pin at the front of the engine dropped out and damaged the engine (Cummins knew of the defect, but didn't notify owners), the 1/2 ton brake pads Dodge used on the truck from 93-99, only gave me 8K to 10K miles and at least one new rotor everytime. Other than that, I really liked my truck.
