I just love how everyone Monday-morning-quaterbacks this.

Thanks for sharing your story Packerfan and glad you are ok. You did the right thing. Be proud. You'd be thankful if someone did that for you. I would.

It was dumb of her to leave her purse in the car, out in the open to begin with.

This is exactly what cops don't want ccw holders doing, and that's playing cop. A simple phone call and writing down the plate would have been sufficient. You wanna save the day sign up for the academy.

+1

Packer, I applaud your zeal in wanting to prevent a crime but sorry, I wouldn't care to die trying to save someone's purse who probably wouldn't even bother to thank me. Unless it's "in your face" use the cell and dial 911 next time. Your wife needs you more than the owner needs that purse.

My take on it is that trying to stop the purse snatcher is something that I'd hope I'd do and I don't carry ('cause I live in one of the two states that don't allow it); carrying wouldn't change the desire to NOT be complacent.

No vigilantism. No hero complex. Nothing but the conscious decision to be a responsible citizen.

At what point is it our responsibility as part of our society to take action when someone is breaking the law and not complacently stand by and watch.

You can bet this thief will think long and hard next time about someone trying to stop him as happened in this incident. The more times he gets away with it the safer he feels. And some are saying that's ok? As a part of what I consider to be our more responsible segment of society I have always believed that it is my duty to expect the same of those around me and do what I can when I have to.

Congratulations to you sir as I would hope to have the big brass ones in the same situation. It's an honor to know that other people care enough to try and do a service for someone they have never met.

... Even when that service can get you killed. Risking your neck for a purse just isn't smart. You have to pick and chose your battles.

Again, why do you think stores tell their employess not to chase shop lifters. Go to youtube and look at all the assaults on store clerks and security gaurds. It's simply not worth it for a mere material possesion. Now if our boy Pack had gotten shot or stabbed how would his wife feel.

Fatty, it wasn't an excuse, I was just asking. I can't just run down my steps, hurl myself into the street, and start firing away at any vehicle coming towards me.

Considering the circumstances where the OP was chasing the guy and placed himself in the path of the vehicle, twice, I think it's a reasonable question when it comes to the legality of shooting.

Good for you, Packman, both for throwing a small amount of monkeywrench into the scumbag's plans, and for not getting yourself killed.

Absolutely it is what it is. You reacted, you didn't get hurt, and who knows, maybe after all is said and done, the bad guy will get busted and locked up.

Curious though,
What about all the dancing girls. I seem to remember lots of dancing girls
