section 13-1507 and 1508 talk about burglery of a residence or inside a business, I do not see how this covers you in your situation. Please do not get me wrong, I agree with you up until the point where you put yourself in a position where you could get hurt. I feel this would be the same as standing in the middle of the street and shooting at any cars that might hit you and then claiming self defense.

It's a good thing you had time to read Section 3-14, A.53.Ad 6Part Z of 1.645343, 59f of ammendment 4.3a, chapter 4 before you acted.

I really like reading stories like this. It reminds me that some people in this world haven't become total pussies. On the other hand I hate reading them because most people are armchair QB's. "You shouldn't have done that, it was stupid, or I would have done this," etc. This country needs more people who are willing to stand up for other people. To those who said Packer should have done this or that, how many of these situations have you been in?
Packer, good job! I think you handled it great. I owe you a beer next time I see you...which would be the first time.

Good for you! You did the right thing. As for the greeters seeing it, most of them would have a heart attack before they got out the door. It seems you were legal to protect your self. Now ya know what to do if there is a next time.

Good going!
I know you didn't get the scumbag, but you tried and no one was killed. As for the people that think you shouldn't have been involved, I doubt you had a whole lot of time to ponder the situation before you became involved. At least you had the presence of mind to get a license number and description for the police. On a side note, rather than wonder of you're legal and what situations you can legally act, I would research the laws in your state so you have a clear understanding of them before the next time. Contact a lawyer and see if you can get some printed jury instructions pertaining to self-defense. They are consistent with the law, provide citations of pertinent laws and are worded in a much simpler manner.

I agree if there were more people like you maybe crime rates would drop. I applaud your king sized cahones, and quick thinking for getting the plate # and not turning a smash & Grab into a lethal force situation. Most of you that have CCL's have had it drummed into your heads about strict liability but not every situation calls for a draw. And that doesnt mean you cant do something to help out your fellow man or woman in this kind of situation. Again Bravo.
