The crooks count on people just standing around.
Crook steals a car. Crook commits a crime. People see crime committed. People write down license plate. Crook ditches car 1/2 mile from crime. Crook walks away. Or the police are so over worked that because it's a minor crime they fill out the report and file it.

At Walmart? I don't know about your Walmarts, but if they're anything like the ones here, I don't want to see any dancing girls at Walmart. I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Pretty risky and bold move, I personally wouldve just stalked the guy until I was able to get a vehicle description and license plate to report. I dont want to risk my life over someone elses purse.

Good job. As a cop it is frustrating to have citizens who take no action what so ever to help. Although your actions were risky you were able to get very important info to the police. Just learn from your experience so that you continue to survive such encounters.

I think he did a good job. If you put yourself in the situation and think about it the way he was faced with it step by step as he described it. Packer didn't know how close the gettaway car was or if there even was one for sure. He started into it planning on getting to the guy on foot. Once there, he is into the situation with adrenaline pumping. Ends up finding the guy in a car and still in the mode of stopping the situation. It's easy to judge everything at the end of reading the story from beginning to end, when you know the outcome. Whole different story when you are in it and it is all being unfolded before your very eyes and you don't yet know the outcome or the things coming into play until it is happening. There are so many ways this story could have ended. Some of the possible endings being very bad, some possibilities heroic, and anything in between. This one happens to end with nobody hurt and good possibility that the bad guys get caught if they were in their own registered car.
Again, good job with a decent outcome. At least you did something instead of nothing.

Car insurance is a farking scam! You use resources like KBB, Edmunds, and NADA to haggle on the price of a vehicle, especially used, and then the insurance companies turn around and use private sources you have to pay to use or be a member of insurance companies to use that list far lower values for vehicles. I totaled a car right before I graduated college and all the sources I used to negotiate the purchase price told me I'd get $X for the car's value from insurance minus my deductible. Turns out I got about $3,000 less than that and had a small amount of my loan left over. I hate car insurance. You're forced to have it by law, but if you use it, your rates go up. If you need it to get the value of a totaled car, you don't get the amount you need to pay off a loan.
