My vote is for trap it and dispose of it in the country or with a .22
I live within city limits so they are a bit of a problem. I have a 3 year old Wimarainer though so its not a huge issue at my place

If you're a bow hunter or know someone who has one, just put bait out, cat food.. or anything really.. and wait... then pop him.
I hate to kill raccoons just because they are cool lookin little things and I had one as a pet when I was little.. I've popped a few possums with my .22 tho. |

I had two living in my attic, coming out at night to eat the cat food.
Trapped them both, one on a Monday and the other the following Friday. They were not happy. Relocated them across the lake where they would have to come across a mile long bridge to even get close to my neighborhood. Fortunately, they hadn't had any babies before I got them. ![]()

Man, nutria, possum, I don't mind popping them with ANY firearm. My brother kicked a nutria to death through a wading boot when it tried to bite him- it flew about 15 feet.
The raccoons around here, well, I don't plant corn anymore, and they haven't tried to hang out on the back porch lately, so I don't mind em. But if they're a nuisance I'd say take them out before they cause property damage. |

I put many a raccon in the ground with a Remington single shot 22 and some 22 shorts or CBs. They're as quiet as any pellet gun and do the job. One ot the head and they're toast.
I set a can of tuna in the backyard on a weekend night, while staying up late and watching movies. We checked on it often and lo and behold...the raccoons came to it. One to the head and toss them in the garbage can. I got three that way. Very quiet...just be VERY sure of your backstop before shooting. You could also invest in one of those Gamo air rifles with the light and laser. Those look pretty cool and would do the job. I cheaped out and used a rifle I already had. 22 shorts were cheaper. Traps? Well...I borrowed one from my uncle but I kept catching the neighbors cats. Not good. Maybe a trap might work for you..I dunno. Good luck. Raccons are just big rats to me. They're very destructive and a nuisance. - brickboy240

If you read "Where the Red Fern Grows" there are many ideas, including the nails in the coffee can bit.
