I am a Realtor here in North Idaho however we don't have any issues with language as it is 98% caucasian in this state. I know anything I say from here on sounds racist, please trust that it is not. I don't know how many Californians I have sold homes to that just want to get away from that place because of the hatred bestowed upon THEM, not their distaste for others. I hear many comments such as, "we love it here because it is so laid back, just good people getting along with good people", which I can agree with, then I have been here for 21 years however anytime I go to a culturally diverse city, I do notice the racial divides to be quite prevalent.

Hey Smoke....I don't know where you get the 98% figure...down south in Twin Falls, it is at least 30% hispanic, maybe more.

Personally I don't think that Asian people think that Anglos ripping them off. I can't speak for them. I myself do not think so. I personally think that all ethnic, not just Asian. Just feels more at ease dealing with their own kind. They would like to think that you can relate to what they want and needs. I don't care what ethnic background you have, you just better dame sure know what your doing if your trying to sell me a house. My 2 cents.

And for Captain Jack, you might want to check with the Idaho Real Estate Division and see how many hours of continue education do you need and if any, are you required to take another test. (Most likely yes) since your license does not transfer. I also read that you have 3 listing, good luck with selling it. Worst come to worst if it is taking longer then a month to sale it. Do another CMA and show the seller that you should drop the price. Obviously no one is buying it because is to high. I dont care what people say, if it is price right for that area, someone will buy it. Unless it smells like cat piss. lol

I used to work in a factory setting with a large number of spanish speaking folks. The press operators were almost all spanish speaking. Many of them played dumb when you talked to them in English, I used to have to go get their boss who was bilingual when they ignored the little spanish I had learned, total bungholes many of them were. One guy used to piss behind the storage racks instead of walking 100 yards to the bathroom, they fired him when he did it the third time after they explained to him in Spanish how to use the bathroom facilities. They would complain to their boss about me telling them when they were screwing up parts and trying to show them what was going on with a press, or whatever. The shrugs and pretending they didn't speak English when I had already busted them by getting them to answer me in English the day before got really old.

I know that in the Detroit area we have a large amount of diversity, and I know that I see more discrimination by immigrant populations that the other way around.

Every time I have been out of the U.S. I made an effort to at least try to learn some of the language to demonstrate that I understood I was the outsider in a culture that existed already. The same attitude towards our culture would be nice. There are plenty of opportunities to learn English and those who have been here for some time should make it a priority.

English (or more accurately "American") should be our official language. Everyone else has one.

whats really fun is that i've been continuing my Rosetta Stone primer in spanish, and can understand quite a bit now. Now i'm just waiting for someone to get in the 20 items or less line with a basket of groceries and claim the "no comprende" line, then i'll be all "Esta línea es 20 artículos o menos.
