Newspapers

Was going a little stir crazy, having the day off and all, so i decided to look through the sizable stack of newspapers i've collected over the last 7 years.

When i was 10 or so, my grandma died. She left me 2 things in her will, with the message that they were "important, and to keep them." They were newspapers of the Hiroshima bombing, and President Kennedy's Assasination.

Obviously i didn't know why they were important until later, but on Sept. 11 i started saving newspapers of things i thought were important. Going through the stack, here's a few of the headlines that struck me...

America Under Attack
D.C. Residents Face New Kind of Terror (Beltway Sniper)
Bush, Saddam Ramp Up War Rhetoric
U.S. Invades Iraq
Baghdad Falls
Saddam Hussein Captured
U.S. Mourns Shuttle Disaster
Chavez Thorn In U.S. Side
At Legendary Rock Club, Music Finally Dies (closing of CBGB)
New Jersey Court Backs Full Rights for Gay Couples
Hussein Sentenced to Death By Hanging
Democrats Gain in Early Races
Rumsfeld Resigns
Castro Resigns
Dollar Dives as Oil Soars
Fed Races to Rescue Bear Stearns
Food Inflation Sparks Riots

Anyone else have an obsession for collecting headlines?

I have a few I have kept. I don't know which ones right off, but I know right where they are. I usually keep the whole front page, for all the stories of the day as well as the ads. Also, any special section that might have been published that day.

My dad also has a bunch of headlines from when Kennedy was assassinated. I found them one time when I was about 10 or so and spent hours looking through them all. It was fascinating to see something so old that recounted history the way it was.

We need more laws to protect these three rights. Ban guns in schools, it obviously works.
