DarkOps knives must be an offshoot of Extreme Shock ammo. Both utilize cheesy mall ninja's to aide in sales...

A buddy is the shop super for Buck Knives here in north Idaho at their new location, got me a Tempest with the ATS blade, they do not call them automatics, per se, but rather spring assisted...wow what a knife.

It is not called an automatic because it isn't an automatic. Automatic requires no forward force on your part to open, usually just the push of a button. An assisted opening knife is like a stadard folder, but after the blade is partially open a spring takes over to does the work for you. As far as I know Ken Onion popularized is not invented this concept.
