The woman was headed towards the pawn shop to get money. Her car broke down. She took her 5 year old daughter and the shotgun out of the car. Walked down to a pay phone to call a friend. Then the cops showed up. She was given a ticket for disorderly conduct.

This was on the local Portland radio talk show most of the afternoon.

People today are way too freaked out about guns. Used to be this would not be a problem. Hell I kept a .22 target rifle and a shotgun during hunting season in my locker in high school. And that was not that long ago.

She broke no laws by carrying a shotgun. What she did was make a bunch of panty-wetting sissies scared.

She should not have been fined or detained.

By the way, your use of free speech to speak against open carry of firearms alarms me. Please tell me your address so I can call the police and have them write you a ticket for distressing me on a public forum.

Nothing is wrong with open carry. However, many people appear to think that exercising your right openly is a bad idea.

I was trying to show that hiding your weapons because some people are alarmed by them is just as silly as not speaking your mind because some people are alarmed by your ideas and words.

Doing so when I went to high school would get you expelled the rest of the year, possibly not allowed back into school at all, and a pretty good stay in Juvie or jail. This is in addition to fines and a lengthy course of psychotherapy, and the permanant confiscation of all firearms involved.

We weren't allowed to have guns in school, but no one was freaked out about guns either. My dad had a gun rack in the pickup up until he traded it in for a little Chevy S-10 after my little brother moved out after college. And yes, it did have a couple guns in it. A .22 rifle and a 16 gauge shotgun. And to top it all off, he rarely locked the truck and they were never stolen.

Irrational fear of guns is a horrible thing brought on by the media and political correctness.

Washington is an Open Carry State. Nothing she did was illegal. I've walked right into the bank with my sidearm openly carried on my belt several times.

In fact there is a court case in WA that exonerates her:

State Vs Casad:

Casad was arrested after a woman called 911 to report that she saw a man walking along a public street carrying what appeared to be a rifle wrapped in a purple towel. Casad said he wascarrying the rifles to a pawn shop. He turned out to be a felon and was arrested for being a felon in possession.

The State Supreme court threw out his conviction because there is nothing illegal about openly carrying a gun and therefore the police had no right to stop him.

And what, pray tell, is so irresponsible about carrying a firearm to a pawn shop?

Banks, by law, are NOT a gun-free zone in Washington state. The most the bank can do is ask you to leave. If you refuse you could be cited for trespassing, but not much else.
