here is my take on it...

if i'm carrying to defend my life or someone elses. i want a gun that will allow me to increase the distance between me and the threat and still be accurate.

i will not carry anything smaller than a 4inch barreled gun, unless i already have one on me.

but... if i had no other option, i would go with a kahr.

Never shot an XD sub-compact?
18 rounds@15 yards 5" Group
I have always been told anything over seven yard self defense shooting would be very hard to prove you couldn't retreat

I would take a look at a Mak or go the more expensive route and get the Kahr. Taurus Mil Pro is not up to my standards, not saying it is a bad handgun, just that it is not my cup of tea.

o, yes i have... and i'm very accurate with them. they are very accurate for how small they are; or should i say, for how short of a barrel they have.

that all depends on what state your in, and what the real situation is. dont stick to one certainty in a world full of uncertainty.

Sorry just didn't understand the no less than 4" thing.
I felt pretty much the same way till I shot the sub-compact .
I love and shoot the heck out of mine should a situation occur I will be ready with it.I guarantee with in the first 10 rounds some will hit the target .
Personally I can hit 25 yards with it naturally {Draw and shoot}Anything further than that to me would be a stretch without a scope. No matter how long the barrel is

you dont have to apolagize for anything. its just a personal prefrence of mine. if i can effectively carry a "mid sized" or "full sized" gun, then why do i need to carry a "compact", or "sub compact". know what i mean?

i'm not saying small guns are useless and are no good. i'm just saying that their practical use is more rare than most people say, and that a bigger/longer gun is better.

I kind of see what you getting at.But to me the short handle and a little less weight is a big plus.I am self employed and live in the sticks so .Putting on my gun every morning isn't really necessary but I do.Which makes it part of my normal dress and greatly increases the comfort level and concealablity when I feel it is important to carry

yep... the important thing that a lot of people forget is. something that works for you may not work for me, and vice versa.

Yep, I prefer my 1911s, Hi-Power or XD-40, but in the summer, with shorts and a t-shirt, the only other small pistol I have is a Makarov.

During the cooler months, its the bigger guns, you bet. I even carry the 5" 1911 the most. Why? Its just more familiar of a piece and that heavy pistol breeds confidence.

In the 97 degree days, the Mak is better than nothing and I can sure hit well with the little bastard. I've tried to not like this pistol, but I cannot hate it. Like the SKS, it is an arm that is hard to hate, though it is low tech, slavish and somewhat ugly. The damn thing just works, period and will be here long after I am gone from this earth...I just know it!

I dunno why, but I seem to love me some low tech, ugly things. My mosin angant is as simple as I think they come. The mak has grown on me fast just form teh pictures I have seen. and for some reason I would relly love a rusted out "rat rod".
I think I ust love things that have some character.
