An Old Friend and Popular Gun Writer - Jeff Cooper
This guy is one of my favorites. I have been reading
his articles for over 30 years. He is in his autumn years and won't be around much longer. He is of the old school and doesn't promote any BS as far as I know. He is very old now and only writes a monthly column unless he is involved in activities unknown to me. Enjoy: http://www.dvc.org.uk/~johnny/jeff/ Please also note what he has to say in the second paragraph. Same thinking as I posted on this forum sometime back. Remember - dropping all the pigs and piglets into Iraq. Ed |

Actualy he does BS a lot. I also see in his works over the past few years quite a bit of dementia creeping in. Don't get me wrong, I admire the guy, he is hell of a shot and his books on shooting techniques are classic texts and must read for everyone, he should just stick to that. I just do not think his mind is as good as it used to be. I am frankly glad we do not have him in any real leadership capacity right now, it is bad enough we have people who are running things there. From what I have seen of his house and such, I wonder if he is a bit paranoid as far as his fortress (no other word for it) is concerned. I agree with some of the things he says, but think his viewpoints are outdated by about 30 to 50 years.

I agreed with you Ed. Unfortunately I believe G.W. Bush sent troops to Iraq not to win a war but to make corporations money. If this is the case then the pig idea will never happen.

Cooper is one of my heros. He has forgotten more about shooting than most of use will ever know.

Well, I edited my response so I wouldn't get into an off topic discussion but since you asked...
There is a philosphy/strategy that suggests that the best defense against terrorists is to fight them on ground and terms of ones own choosing. In our case, that would be outside of the US. By taking the fight to Iraq, the strategy is to attract (like a magnet) those who might otherwise attack us at home. |

Sure as hell works! Don't it? Now back to our regular scheduled bacon thread.

Iraq needed it's ass kicked. Iraq should have been a punitive expedition, like when we went after Villa in Mexico- instead of the "let's give them democracy" bull**** line.
But punitive expeditions are not PC, and now we wage war with one eye on the polls. Ol' Coop is OK in my book. I don't agree with everything he says, but if it were not for his efforts (as well of the efforts of Ray Chapman, Elden Carl, Jack Weaver, and a few others) we would not be as advanced in pistolcraft as we are today. Got to give the man credit for that.
