Job well done Ibarra
Robbery attempt ends in death for suspect in Houston
By MIKE GLENN Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle A roofer fatally shot a suspected robber on Sunday only minutes after the man shoved a pistol in his back in the parking lot of a southeast Houston townhouse complex. Identified by his employer as Juan Ibarra, the roofer was hitching a trailer to his pickup truck about 9 a.m. when the robber moved up behind him, police said. Ibarra "was ordered to go around to the cab of the truck and give him his money," said Ramon Cervantes, a Houston police homicide detective. The robber grabbed Ibarra's wallet and cell phone then began walking away. Police said he stopped after noticing that some of the cash and fallen to the pavement. He again pointed a pistol at Ibarra, police said, then reached down for the money. That's when Ibarra pulled out his revolver and began shooting, firing at least three times, police said. The robber was struck in the left chest area and fell to the ground, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A handful of residents watched Sunday as police placed several evidence markers around the white Ford pickup truck. "If it's a robber who got popped, that's his problem," said John Andre, who lives a couple of house away. Police said Ibarra has a license to carry a concealed handgun. The robber, 21, lived in the area, said police who declined to identify him until his family is notified. "He (the robber) did have a weapon and we have taken that into evidence," Cervantes said. Ibarra had been working on the roof at the complex but decided to pick up the work trailer on Sunday so it wouldn't remain unattended for the remainder of the long holiday weekend, his employer said. Ibarra called his boss, Jesus Balleza, soon after the incident. "He's one of my best guys," Balleza said. "I got into my truck and drove over here." Ibarra was shaken up, Balleza said, but otherwise not harmed during the ordeal. He was questioned at the scene but later taken to HPD headquarters, police said. Ibarra was not charged in the fatal shooting. The case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury, police said.

Does Harris County still have that whacked out DA that was going to arrest people who were carrying a weapon inside thier car regardless of the state travelling law?

Good!!! He needs to go on a snipe hunt out in the Gulf.
I was just wondering because it doesnt seem like a good envriomnment for Mr Ibarra to be in if there was still such a hostile DA in office.

I seem to be blocked from a lot of the stories in the Houston Chronicle about District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal but I found this. Their trying to kick some more good ol boy butt and going after Sheriff Tommy Thomas. This is way cool stuff and should help us CHL permit holders even more.
Lawyer who undid DA is after sheriff By RICK CASEY Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle The lawyer who brought down District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal is setting his sights on Sheriff Tommy Thomas. Rosenthal's demise came from deleting more than 2,000 e-mails after being ordered by a federal judge to produce them. Attorney Lloyd Kelley had sought the e-mails in connection with a suit that accused five of Thomas' deputies of violating the civil rights of two brothers. Thomas was a defendant in that case because of the deputies were his employees. But now Kelley says he's researching a lawsuit based on the sheriff's own actions. 'The slavery lawsuit' "He took (county jail) prisoners apparently and used them to build his fence out at his ranch," Kelley said, referring to Thomas' 80-acre ranch in Colorado County. The allegation is similar to those that aired on Channel 13 by Wayne Dolcefino. But Kelley said he has been approached by a former inmate who did not talk to Dolcefino. "He has very detailed information," Kelley said of the former inmate. Kelley said such private use of prisoners for private service is illegal and may even violate a Supreme Court slavery ruling. He said he has some more research to do, but expects to file the suit "before long." "The slavery lawsuit will probably go forward," he said. The sheriff assured Dolcefino he hadn't used prisoner labor on the ranch. He said he had used five different companies, but he refused to name them.

Good deal, I like stories when they end with the good guy going home and the bad guy stopped from ever hurting someone again.
