I hate the Summer!

Here's why...every year when the neighborhood kids get out of school, we have problems. The problems range from disrespectful kids at the pool, to pranks, to vandalism, to drugs, and break ins.

The kids just got out and we were already the victim of a relatively harmless prank. The girls (in the 2 houses) across the street graduated HS and had parties last night. I got up this morning to find chocolate syrup, eggs, and blue cheese dressing all over the mailbox. Obviously a "chick" prank...we were much more destructive than that. Not a big deal...2 minutes with the hose and it was all cleaned up.

But unfortunately it is just the tip of the iceberg. Last year, we had homes that were broken into, a bathroom at the community clubhouse that was set on fire, cars that were vandalized, ... Fortunately this year, our neighborhood HOA got off their butts and hired 2 off duty cops to patrol in marked police cars. Hopefully, the results will be better this year.

So yes...I hate Summer!

We have the same kinds of things happening in our neighborhood. The part that really gets to me is to hear the parents dismiss things like break-ins by saying "the kids are just bored". As always seems to be the case, the parents are blowing off their own failures with the little Chad and Ashleys that do this as "kids will be kids". A neighbor of ours that caught some kids doing this and called Cobb County PD on them later actually got sued by one of the kids parents.

In this regard I'm right there with you in hating Summer.

I guess it's an epidemic. Same crap here. Years ago, I had a kid mouth off at my wife. I called the "Dad" and he got mouthy with me on the phone...until I offerred to pay him a visit.

We had 1 kid where I called the Dad and the Father jumped his son's butt just like what I would have gotten as a kid. Unfortunately these parents are becoming a rare breed.

I hate the summer because it is too hot to do anything down here and my ac just kicked the bucket last week. I am ready for September.

I never understood why people feel the need to vandalize when they're drunk...I've been VERY drunk more times then I can remember, and I always just want to play video games or do karaoke or something...I had a party at my parents' house a few years ago, and one a-hole friend of mine stole someone's flag/flagpole and threw the pole into our lake...then came up to me and handed me the flag. I think I still have it, actually...hahahaha.

I grew up in Florida, so I feel your pain. I lived in S. Florida and St. Pete. An amusing aside, my grandfather (who died in his mid 90s) lived down there for a long time. I remember going to his house in the summer and he just had the windows open with no ac. He had an ac system, but felt it was a waste of money and never used it. You'd step in house when it was in the 90s with 90% humidity and he'd ask if you wanted a cup of coffee Tough as nails...the old guy lived on his own until he died at 95 or 96.

I don't so much mind the pranks. The vandalism with serious property damage...I do mind. And most of all, it's the attitude of the kids and their ****-for-brains parents that believe their little Chad was just bored (borrowing for one of the above posts). That just makes my blood boil. And you just know that one of these days the kid will try to break into a home, get blown away, and Mommy & Daddy will blame you for their poor child's behavior.

When it gets to be 115+degrees, I'll be hating it as well.

I live in a rural setting where the houses generally are at least a mile apart. You know when the kids are out of school, be it spring break or summer, when the street signs begin to get "pushed" over. Somehow, they think it's funny to drive up to a sign with their truck's bumper and push it down. On the way to work the other day, I saw 4 down within a two mile strech (not to mention the empty "12 pack carton" in the middle of the street).

Couple of more weeks and I am going to swimming in fresh tomatoes and corn. I love this time of year.

Kids should be seen and not heard. Otherwise they get tased.
