on my first ride-along in about 30 minutes... Ive been going to college for Administration of Justice and started the Academy in the Fall. So wish me luck and i hope i see some good action!!

Good luck. Have fun. I hope you are with someone who really wants you along as it will make you ride a lot better. If he knows you're in the Academy that should help immensely as he will realize you don't have a hidden adjenda.

Be safe, listen to everything he/she says as it may save your life. Also, if you have a firearm, don't bring it with you unless of course you are permitted to. I had a ride along who was an applicant and halfway thru the ride, I discovered he had a revolver concealed.

. The sgt. and I had an interesting discussion with him.

Try to go on as many as you can.

What dept. are you riding with and what dept. did you hire on with if I may ask.

ETA: I would recommend you go to Calguns.net and read up on the OLL (Off List Lowers). These refer to lower receivers for AK47 and AR15 rifles that are not on the assault weapon list and are therefore legal. Most leo have no knowledge of Harrot vs King (Ca. Supreme Ct. case) and other cases and merely arrest anyone with a rifle like that putting innocent people thru grief and a lot of money. Check out the flow chart they have that explains it also. After becoming knowledgeable on the subject and the laws, you will be able to educate your fellow officers. Obviously you will want to wait until you have been on for a bit.

thanks guys! it was a blast! i went wiht the Anderson Police Department. the officer i went with, was really good. he enjoys ride alongs and plus i knew him in high school. yea i didnt carry, but a few late night traffic stops really had me wishing i had my weapon. it was definitely an awesome experience and has me even more ecstatic to get through the academy.
