i am completely against this, even if its used only for govt/le sales.

i'm a firm believer that the cr@p we see today stems from lesser 'offenses' on the RKBA, ranging from various Gun Control Acts, "lauty" amendments, AWB's, etc...

like ed said -

if it can happen - it will happen. especially noting that when microstamping is mere months old (in the mainstream media) its already mandatory in CA - and working its way through NY and IL i believe...

sorry, i'd rather suffer the inconveniences of too much liberty than too little of it. and this reeks of something that could soon infringe on it.

The gun that had a chip in it was a H&K, I think a P2000...

As far as the Sig deal, I don't mind it as long as it's just in LE & military weapons, but the day it comes to consumer weapons is the day I don't buy another Sig. (and I like my Sigs )

I don't like this one bit. I was thinking of a Sig for my next pistol purchase, but not with this big brother move. I don't really see any benefit for LE or Military. They already have means to track position of their own personnel. What they need is to track the enemies guns! But I do see a lot of advantage for government trying to track/confiscate their citizens guns.

I guess if they're just tracking their inventory in their own buildings that's ok, but if they try to put that crap in so that all they need to do is drive by your home and see what you've got then it's a major no no!!!

Just like that dang exxon speedpass crap, it's only a matter of time before somone figures out how to clone it by passing something near your keys.
They already have that, as well as a tool that can read credit cards from 4 feet. They can get your whole life walking past you.

If you put the chip in the right way, make it no energy reflection, you have a powerful enough transmitter and you could easily scan all guns within 200 meters. That being said, if on the website you could choose with or without chip, and its in the handgrips, I could go for that option. But then states would make it law, but make it patented to be only in the grip, it would be ok.

I found a bug in my corn flakes this morning but it was just an electronic cockroach. I shot the little bastard before he could arm his nukes.

The way I see it, if this is so good for military and LE to track inventory, let them put there own RFID in their weapons. Hell they probably have that already. I see no need for a manufacturer to offer this, that write up had so much spin in it, they know this is not going to be popular, so why do it? There must be more to this than they are saying I think.

Hello

Looks like great site for valuable information and views - few comments about SIG tag - they are not going to just appear in new guns - these are special options that cost extra money - no one is going to put in a gun free so can spy

the range is not 100 feet - it is more like 1-10 feet and this is not RFID - lots of stuff on web about Rubee -
will post more details

Sig RFID

This is not a commercial retail product - and is certainly not for spying on gun owners -

I have seen it work and will be important to improve safety and guarantee best possible weapons for both our troops and LE. I want them to have best damn weapons they can get.

All of the other manufactures if they want any government business will have same system installed by end of year - why ? because inventory management and weapon pedigree management and most important weapon maintenance records in government is already done manually very expensive and not too good - this just makes automatic ..

DOD required all new DOD purchases to have RFID tags last year - however RFID does not work well because of steel - this is just new wireless system that does work with steel. Can also count number of shots for maintenance - its like a millage gauge on car - tells when to change the oil - The M4's going to Iraq today have few records re life or use - just a guess and hope OK -

We have been waiting for this for years - new technology is always scary but this will help our troops and LE to have the best maintained weapons possible. Same with LE -
