I know I saw a thread on one gun forum months ago where one owner found a chip type device in his (I believe it was...) Sig. Anyone else?

I would not say that anyone is
paranoid, they are just using the brain the good Lord gave them for deduction and reasoning. Some may do more deduction and reasoning than others. Simple! If it can happen, it will happen! Ed |

I was going to get a 556 later this year, I won't get one now. Guess I'll look into a Robinson XCR or a Bushmaster ACR next year.

while the RFID chip can broadcast up to 100 feet, it's the RFID receivers that can "read" at a much farther distance that 100 feet..
if you have toll road passes, this is exactly how they work.. you can be more than 330 feet from the RFID reader and at up to speeds of 100MPH and it will get a positive reading of the tag.. and this is the first gen RFID.. i fully understand the uses of RFID, and it is a great technology.. but again, the chances of this tech being misused is extremely high.. IMO, the fact that Sig is installing these in weapons to inventory track them is fine.. but on the battlefield, they are nothing more than beacons for the opposition to track.. implementing this is the first step to tracking/controlling all current and retrofitted weapons.. Civilian and Gov/Military.. afaik, the HK was a P2000 that actually had the chip in it.. and it was another model that had a recess in the frame for an RFID package in it.. i remember this, because i went over my SA-XD 45 looking for one.. it's not paranoia.. it's one step from being implemented.. |

Yeah, I think you may have been right. It could have been a USP.
