Ex-cop gets 4½ years in deadly raid cover-up - CNN.com

ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- An Atlanta police officer has been sentenced to 4 years and six months in prison for lying to investigators after a drug raid ended in the death of a 92-year-old woman.

Former Atlanta police officer Arthur Tesler was the only officer to go to trial.

Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson also sentenced Arthur Tesler on Thursday to six months of probation.
The officer must serve 450 hours of community service.
Kathryn Johnston died in a hail of bullets after narcotics officers burst into her northwest Atlanta home on November 21, 2006, using a special no-knock warrant to search for drugs.
The 42-year-old Tesler was convicted Tuesday of making false statements. Two other officers have already pleaded guilty and Tesler was the only officer to go to trial.

I guess they actually did something the cops that botched that warrant up.

no knock warrents are the WORST idea ever! If you dont announce your a cop you cant b*tch when you get shot after kicking in a door.

I understand the idea behind the no knock, but the potential for stuff like this happening I think out weighs the postives.

Good riddance you POS. I think no warrants should only be used with the sworn testimony of a police officer (not a caught criminal trying to get out of a rap) With lights, with uniforms only. and a shown reason for a no knock warrant. Two judges.

Every one of those were avoided in this case. Plain clothes cops (WTF?) no evidence whatsoever, no reason to have a no knock. No lights from police cars, absolutely no way for her to know it was police. One judge signed it.

I won't lie...if a bunch of guys storm through my front door, guns in hand, with no obvious markings as to who they are, someone is gonna get shot...

Royally screwed up intelligent analytic mind. We need more laws to protect these three rights. Ban guns in schools, it obviously works.
