Joe Horn

Grand jury will hear Joe Horn case next month

Grand jurors next month will hear the case of a Pasadena man accused of fatally shooting two alleged burglars as they ran near his property.
Investigators have said Joe Horn admitted to killing Diego Ortiz and Hernando Riascos Torres after he reported seeing them break into a neighbor's home. Both were shot in the back with a 12-gauge shotgun, Pasadena police said.
Horn, 61, has not been charged in the case.
Scott Durfee, a spokesman for the Harris County District Attorney's Office, said prosecutor Lynne Parsons was waiting for forensic testing before presenting the case to grand jurors.
Durfee declined to say whether prosecutors would ask the grand jury to indict or decline to indict.
"We're not stating publicly what our position will be," Durfee said.

They better not bring charges on Horn. I know this story fairly well and he was defending himself on his own property when he shot the scumbags.

Thanks for the update. Its apalling to me that they even made him pay for a lawyer due to a grand jury. I don't agree with his methods, but we weren't there and its excusable. I wouldn't give him a medal for the shoot, but one for being a good neighbor.

it wasn't self defense, it was vigilantism. He shot 2 men in the back when he was in no danger. he makes gun owners look like nutjobs...

if he shot them in the back then he became the aggressor. personally i think he did a good thing trying to do right by his neighbor and his neighborhood and hell possibly even himself who knows if they would've tried gettin into his place next. that being said it was also kinda stupid to shoot em while they were trying to get away even though i'd really want to do the same thing..i hope he gets off this charge but i will be suprised becouse he was legally in the wrong..morally is a diff story. just how i feel about it hope he doesnt get hit too bad

Hot off the Press!! NO BILL on Joe Horn!!

Homeowner Cleared Of Killing Burglary Suspects

UPDATED: 1:55 pm CDT June 30, 2008

HOUSTON -- A Pasadena homeowner who fatally shot two men suspected of burglarizing his neighbor's house was cleared by a Harris County grand jury on Monday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Joe Horn's attorney, Tom Lambright, said that his client "acted in self-defense and had no choice."
Grand jurors announced the decision to not have charges filed against Horn at about 1 p.m.

Pasadena police said Horn killed burglary suspects Hernando Torres, 38, and Diego Ortiz, 30, by shooting them in the back at about 2 p.m. on Nov. 14 as they ran from Horn's neighbor's house in the 7400 block of Timberline Drive.
Horn called 911 and told a dispatcher he witnessed two men break into his neighbor's house and that he would shoot if he stepped outside. A few minutes later, Torres and Ortiz, both illegal immigrants, were dead.
Accompanied by community activist Quanell X, the widow of one of the men killed showed up at the Harris County Courthouse on Friday hoping to testify before the grand jury, but was she was not asked to.
"(Horn) was never in any danger and was in his own home until he came out and shot them in the back," Stephanie Storey said. "I want him convicted. Period."

nutjobs are people who jump to conclusions and make errant statements/actions. Funny how some claim he acted impulsively and without good judgment and then make post that are impulsive and lack good judgment.

Good for him. two less repeat criminals in the system.
