Wink Dude, we are SO busted... 2,000 Marijuana plants

WEDNESDAY, May 21, 2008, 12:51 p.m.
By Linda Spice

Citizen tip leads to large pot bust

A tip from a concerned citizen launched a three-month drug investigation that led police to three homes yesterday in Oak Creek, Franklin and Sturtevant where officers found more than 2,000 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $3 to $5 million, Oak Creek police said today.

At a press conference announcing the bust, Oak Creek police officers stood guard over the plants, expensive grow lights and sophisticated wiring systems that investigators confiscated after arresting four men and a woman in connection with the grow operation.

Members of the Oak Creek Police Department drug enforcement unit and emergency response unit in a joint investigation with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Cudahy Police Department served four search warrants on Tuesday, finding that three homes were set up for the sole purpose of growing marijuana, all in affluent neighborhoods.

Those were located at 2155 E. Ash Court in Oak Creek; 6749 S. 34th St. in Franklin and 8324 Foxhaven Chase in Sturtevant.

Oak Creek Lt. of Detectives John Edwards said during a press conference today that police will be seeking federal charges with the U.S. Attorney's Office against the people arrested. All remain in custody today.

"Once in a career. It's a once-in-a career type hit," he said.

Edwards said the investigation began after an Oak Creek citizen raised concerns about how people were living in the house, about things that were being taken to the house and about the different smells coming from the house.

"It wasn't being lived in like a normal house," he said.

In addition to the marijuana plants, police also confiscated an $86,000 BMW convertible, an Acura SUV, another SUV, Rolexes and other expensive jewelry, $20,000 in cash, a boat, and three weapons - a Smith and Wesson .357, a Glock 9 mm and a Glock 12-gauge pump.

Because the three homes were set up as makeshift green houses, moisture in the houses caused extensive mold to grow, collapsing most of the drywall and covering the studs in the walls. Inspection and health departments from all three communities responded to the homes to assess the mold problem. Edwards said neighbors are not in any danger because of the mold.

Humph... a couple Glocks and a S&W

Oh, and watch out for mold growth!

More on topic...if any of you have never seen the show "Weeds" you need to watch it. It is much like this but incredibly funny.

With all that cash they could have hired someone to keep the mold down, then the smell wouldn't have been as bad.

Maybe they were stoned.

Same here...when in doubt, let's scare the public and call it a Glock. I wonder what the people at Glock think when they read about guns attributed to them they don't even make.
