Anybody ever been fired?
Just curious... I'm working my tail off to fix some errors I've made trying to avoid the prospect, but I am curious if it's happened to you and how it has affected your professional career.
I'd be interested to hear the stories. I'll fill in the details next week, if you like. joe

Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand?
Sorry Joe, I couldn't help myself with the Hendrix reference..... I'm 45 years old, I've only had 5 jobs since I was 16 (yes always employed). I've never been fired or suspended, ever (knock on wood..... For the last 22 years I've been a Teamster. I think I've only called the union twice in 22 years. But I do what is expected of me at work and I keep a very low profile. I go work, do my run, and go home. Thats the way I like it. I hope all works out for you and yours Joe......

Yes, I was 18 and working at what was then called Minute-Lube. They rehired me about a year later anyway.
Other than that I've been laid off once and that's it.

I worked construction for a guy who is bipolar. The kind of guy who told me what he wanted and how he wanted it done then screamed about how we had done it wrong (his way, remember) when he'd check in later. Fired me one day, called me back two days later to re-hire me. I already had another job.

I was fired while working as a manager in a retail store.
I had to call the police to remove a customer that was trying to hurt me. I was told I did not provide good customer service...... I of course told them what I thought of that, I had a better job days later.

I was "fired" once, I was a couple days away from quitting anyways so I didn't care too much. It is one hell of a lot easier to find a job when you already have one though.

I got fiered when I was 16 from a delli, my co-worker (asistant manager) was pulling a "void order" scam. at the end of one of our shifts the owner came by to do the close out and when he found all the void slips in the drawer he fired both of us on the spot. (I had no idea it was going on since I had not touched the register all nite)
2 weeks later I got a new job that had health care, paid time off, and starting pay was $10 an hr (as opposed to the $7 I was making) |

Yeah, once...I went out after work on St. Patricks day and had a green beer or two. The next morning i got called into HR, they said someone saw me out and that i was "presenting a poor image of the company"....I'm not a drunk or a wild partier so i was pretty confused, that along with the idea that my time off work was my time.
I was ok with losing that job...haven't looked back nor has it affected me one bit.

I got fired once for sure, not so sure about the other.
The for sure one I was working at a job that I shouldn't have taken, but I needed it and was broke. After six weeks of pain and suffering I was on my way to the boss's office to quit first thing in the morning when I got paged on the intercom and got fired. That pretty much ended my engineering career because I got the job through a headhunter. When they told him their version of what happened he put the word out that I was no good. The other one was because I wouldn't let my boss's wife run my life outside of work. They claim I was downsized, but they had a new guy in my place within a few days. They also screwed me out of a week's pay. |
