When I chose my major, I had it all planned out. I knew that when I graduated, I'd have 7 years of administrative/office-type experience, and with a 4-year degree, I thought I'd have my resume' on the top of the stack. Yet I'm finding that people who had NO experience, and graduated with me, are somehow finding jobs that pay twice what I'm getting. I have no idea how.

The sad thing is, I've been pigeon-holed with my job, all the experience I have is in an area that has little to no use in the private industry (asset management/inventory tracking). What constitutes my full-time job with the state is usually 1/10th of someone's responsibilities in a private company (thanks to awesome software and technology that the state is too cheap to buy).

I've been thinking about getting training in "supply chain management", maybe that'll help.

I have a bachelors degree from a major state university. I do not, however, work in the field that I got my degree in. Went to a large suburban middle class public school system for high school, too.

Salary? Well...lets just say that my wife and I drag home somewhere well into the six-figure range.

Thats about all I wish to give away about my education and income.

What an @ss. Thanks "Friend".
TYFOON, from reading Dan's many posts, I believe you have misjudged his post. He was making a joke, not trying to insult you. If he reads your reply, I'm sure he will state that himself and probably apologize, tho I'm sure he didn't intend anything about it. It was merely a joke, relax a bit.

I have a B.A. in History, 1 1/2 of law school and other post graduate classes, but no additional degree. My salary was higher when I was working, but I actually have more since I'm retired medically.

Between my wife and I, we are getting about $82K, but for all intents and purposes, it is tax free due to our medical disability pensions. (wife is actually on SS disability). I don't know what it equates to if it was considered a taxable income, but I'm sure it is a little over a $100K. Someone with some math expertise could probably figure it out, but I can't.

At the 35% tax rate that's like grossing ballpark $130K. I'm sorry to hear these are medical disabilities but glad you have this kind of backup.

Well I got you all beat, income: 0.00 per year. Stay at home dad now after 4 car accidents made being a network lineman tech impossible.

Education some college. School went under while finishing.

No SSI yet as Dr. hasn't given me a rating yet. SSI probably will be 3-4 years down the road as I'm young and they hate that no matter how disabled. Just finished up my last deposition four our last car accident. So actually once settled this year I should clear around $200,000 once they are settled.

Slugger6:
Either I wrote it a little too matter-of-factly or too many years in higher education attenuates one's sense of humor---it was a joke!

But seriously, my wife thought that the hard part was over when I received my PhD. But now as a tenure-track faculty member, I'm averaging about 60-65 work hours a week (I am currently working on two journal articles and three research projects). I do take my work very seriously.
