I'm just the opposite, I own an XD9sc and XD45 compact.
I have carried either/or but I would rather carry the XD9sc.
I feel shot placement is more important than caliber size in a 9mm and up.
My XD45 compact has turned into more of a range/home defense/hobby gun.
I love my XD45 and I'm actually more accurate with it,
but with the heavier weight and the longer slide of the XD45,
I prefer to carry the XD9sc.
But lately I've been carrying my new S&W 642..........
And I just ordered a Ruger LCP.
You 45acp fanatics don't be hatin' my little 380.............

I have a 9sc and a 45Tac.... the 45 is slowly getting mod's for range use.. the 9sc is sportin' some TFO's and will be my carry gun when I get my CCW.

I shoot the 9 a lot more due to ammo cost but the 45 is really fun too.

You all are missing the point pistol caliber is not about "stopping power" or "shot placement" It's about manlyness the 9mm is small not manly like a big .45 you say well why not a .50 then well because you gotta draw the line some where if you carry a fifty people are going to think your compensating for somthing. not very manly so .45acp is the best choice

I carry my xd .45 because I can shoot it well. I trust My XD's with my life and im sure enough that it would stop a threat if called on to do so.

Why a 45?

Well a few reasons (and this probaly applies for many here:

#1
Many of us grew up shooting Dad's service 45 pistol or carried it in the Army or Marines and it was familiar.

#2
The pistols that launch it are very comfortable to shoot and carry. For such a large round, the 45ACP, in a normal sized pistol, is a very pleasant shooter.

#3 The 45ACP is a fairly accurate round.

#4 The 45ACP's lower velocity and size and weight make it a great defensive round.

#5 There is a ton of history behind the 45 round, the M1911 pistol and its inventor and those that carried it in harms way. The aura around the round appeals to many students of history.

#6 Not too long ago, it was not THAT much more expensive to shoot 45 over 9mm. In fact, back in November of last year, I was paying about 3 dollars a box more for it that a similar box of 9mm. The ammo pricing for 9mm versus 45 used to be MUCH less of a factor than today.

#7 Since the 45 is about 100 years old, many of us are oldtimers with this round and it brings us comfort and we just stick with it for comfort and nostalgia's sake because it works. Its familiar.

One 50rd box through a decent M1911 and you'll see why this platform and caliber has such longevity and appeal.

Seriously though, .45 is what I carry. It's heavier and pulls my pants down all day, but it is what I practice with most and I have confidece in it's characteristics.

9mm and .40 are also good, but I feel better with the 45.
