590A1 is the milspec with the metal safety & trigger and thick barrel not the regular 590/500. I got the 20" and replaced the stock with houge 12" LOP. Plus sent it to Vang Comp for their VCS.

Unfortunately, that version of the Saiga 12 is illegal in New York because of our lovely assault weapons ban.

I found on bugsgunshop.com

The 590 special purpose parkerized for $361 "delivered"

Mossberg 50660 590 12 20 CB 9SH CB PARK for Sale at Buds Gun Shop

The 590A1 special purpose parkerized for $451 "delivered" (out of stock)

Mossberg 590A1 12g 20" CB PRK SYN for Sale at Buds Gun Shop

I went to a local gun shop yesterday, i think the 590A1 was around $600.
And the regular 590 was i think slightly under 500.

My questions now are, the 590A1, only offers a thicker barrel and a metal trigger guard over the regular 590 special purpose? if thats so, why should i spend the extra 100 on the A1?

Also, are these good prices for online, cause i know they beat in the shop prices? I could pick up a mossy 500 at the local gun shops for around 200 bux, but i really would rather have the 590. But in the shops theyre alot more money.

Also, when it says "$361 Delivered" what exactly does that mean? Is that the final price? Does it have tax(does internet sale have tax?) included. Also does that include background check fee's and what not, or is that additional? Thanks for your help all, this is really important to me!!'

I was at the gun shop yesterday, and the president of my community was in there, and told her i was looking for a home defense shot gun, although i would realistically never need one where we live. I would probably use it for messing around at my friends house, but still want one for home defense. She was actually there picking up a new hand gun and some pepper spray. She said we have actually had several home invasions over the past couple months, and getting a home defense weapon isnt a bad idea. She told me to come down to the next crime watch meeting, i might do that. We live in a really nice area, but a couple miles away some of the dreggs of new york/jersey and gang members have been settling in the area. Which is what prompted me to become a hand gun owner in the first place. so now that you know the deal!!

JCabin, go to GunBroker.com Online Gun Auction for a list of FFLs in the area, it should be the price to their door. They will charge you anywhere from $5(he's doing a public service)-$80(they are trying to make it more profitable to buy it at the shop) FFL fees, and a background check? Man in mi they are free.... maybe if you have to get a purchasing permit... wtf if so get out of a communist state.

Yeah, 'SHTF' came to me when I was in the shower. Thanks for the response. I figured it referred to some kind of societal breakdown/riot/etc. not a "Night of the Living Dead" phenom. LOL. Hope I never even come close to anything like that but like a lot of things in life it's better to have a SHTF gun and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I got about a shot pattern of a little under a foot at 10 yards with an 18.5" barrel. The longest hallway in my house is about 25 feet. It was eye-opening to go to the pattern range and shoot at different distances. I'd recommend it for anybody.

Which brings me to my final point. The choice for an HD gun be it a shotty/pistol, pump/auto, etc. is important and everybody's got an opinion. IMO, what's even more important is practicing and training with your weapon so that you can operate it safely and effectively in a stress situation.

For a zombie invasion I always viewed a shotty as too heavy, but to make it out of the neighborhoods in a riot, the audible concussion effect it will have may keep me alive so go for it. (my plan is to take the shotgun to the edge of town then transition to my AK.
Any chance of verifying this claim, or is it just opinion ??

Gore's nutty idea
Gore proposed last week that the United States "commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years."

Not just all new electricity, mind you, which would be challenging enough. But all existing electricity, too.

Yep, and if you ask an honest Smith, they will also tell you that quality has suffered over the years. The fit and finish is not what it used to be

The reason that you want a shotgun for home defense is because it has a much higher probability of terminating the threat to you and your family in a single shot. And it does so by putting about an ounce of lead 12" into the BG's body in the form of anywhere from 6 to 21 pellets depending on the type of buckshot you use. Nine pellets of 00 buck is like getting hit by nine 8.4mm, deep penetrating bullets simultaneously. It is devastating power.

I have a 590 with a recoil-reducing Knoxx Spec Ops stock and it is one powerhouse weapon. The Knoxx stock is the best thing I ever did to a gun. It knocks out at least 75% of the recoil. It makes shooting slugs... even in 3" magnum loads easy as pie... no bruises... no pain. And that also brings you back on target much quicker. Great addition to the Mossy or the 870.
I agree on all counts ... But especially the Knoxx ... Best accessory I ever purchased, for any gun, IMO!!

Also, I am a big fan of #1 Buck .... because it works in my environment. #00 might say hello to a neighbor, if I miss. The #1 also carries 16 pellets and each is only slightly smaller in size

The person who mentioned a slug followed by #00 hopefully lives in the country
