Somebody call Mossberg and tell them to close up shop. I guess you'll find my Moss 500 in the trashcan by the road tonight. And to think, all those years spent shooting it with no problems...If I only knew that the Rem 870 is the ONLY quality SHTF I never would have wasted my time.

As much as I love my XD, even when I had more handguns, they were backup to the scattergun for my home defense arsenal.
Nonsense. At room distance there is very little spread to buckshot. The shotty must be aimed as any other long gun. The idea that you will "cover the wall" with it is completely false.

The reason that you want a shotgun for home defense is because it has a much higher probability of terminating the threat to you and your family in a single shot. And it does so by putting about an ounce of lead 12" into the BG's body in the form of anywhere from 6 to 21 pellets depending on the type of buckshot you use. Nine pellets of 00 buck is like getting hit by nine 8.4mm, deep penetrating bullets simultaneously. It is devastating power.

I have a 590 with a recoil-reducing Knoxx Spec Ops stock and it is one powerhouse weapon. The Knoxx stock is the best thing I ever did to a gun. It knocks out at least 75% of the recoil. It makes shooting slugs... even in 3" magnum loads easy as pie... no bruises... no pain. And that also brings you back on target much quicker. Great addition to the Mossy or the 870.

i didn't even think about switching barrels, duh!!!! i could swap out the stock too, duck season is only a couple months so the rest of the year i could have that shtf shotty. oh, btw, with 3.5" 00 buckshot, you can put 18 pellets on your target. i do leave mine loaded 00, slug, 00,slug, 00. doesn't really serve a tactical advantage, it is just cool .

yeah...i guess you could technically buy a M590A1 with a 18.5" or 20" barrel, and then for hunting you can purchase a longer barrel for a mossberg 500....one gun, multiple job's.

i do love my Mossy...but i am not a fan boy of the brand.

im buying my dad an 18.5" 870 for father's day.

i figure instead of being a brand jockey...why not own multiple great firearms by multiple brands?

if you research "tactical SHTF shotgun's" you will come across the same question's "590 or 870?"....you will usually see this answer "you cant go wrong with either"

of course there will always be the people that swear by mossberg, or the ones who believe in the 870 as a godlike shotgun.

but in reality...both ar great choices and its all a matter of how the gun feel's to you, the buyer.
