Night Site Question

I want to have night sites installed. Should I send my XD to Springfield, or have my local gun shop install them? Has anyone done it both ways or have any suggestions?

Thanks.

The XD has a reputation for having an extremely tight front sight. I would only allow a local 'smith to work on mine if he has prior experience with XD's. There have been more than a few stories around here about how Billy Bob at Redneck Armory totally fudged the slide while trying to remove/install the nasty little thing.

Bottom line: send it to Springfield or one of the sponsors listed on our forum (they're all well-versed in the tao of XD) unless your 'smith of choice knows what he's doing (and can prove it).

Agree with Dan. I however lucked out and have a smith who does great work and has installed about 3 sets of XD sights a week for almost a year. He has worked 3 of mine and the 4th is in route... which he will see days later.

I have had sights put on my XD by a local Smith and I recently sent my XD 45 C slide to Gilbert's Guns to have TRU GLOs installed and they did a great job and not a mark on the slide the man is a pro when it comes to XD sights removal and install. Turn around was within the week.Call your local gunshops and see if they can recommend a local gunsmith with a good reputation when it comes to XD sights removal and install, if not then you can feel at ease sending the slide to sponsor from this forum.
