Prayer Request (Aunt isn't expected to make it)

I just got the following email from my dad:

Betty=Aunt (Dad's half-sister)
Leorn=Cousin
Esther=Great-Aunt
FBA=Dad
Quote:
FYI: Betty is in the hospital, very sick, not expected to make it.

Leorn took her to emergency a week ago because she was having trouble breathing. They determined she had double pneumonia. Further tests revealed a very high blood sugar level. They began treatment for both of those ailments. She also was having rapid pulse and fluctuating blood pressure - sometimes high, sometimes low. More tests revealed an inflamed gall bladder. Yesterday they operated to remove the gall bladder - which they did successfully - but found she was riddled with cancer, including in kidneys and liver. Leorn called me at work this morning to tell me that basically he has instructed the doctors to "pull the plug" and let nature take its course. It could be days - it could be hours. Keep Betty in your thoughts and prayers, but also Leorn. Outwardly, he seems to be dealing with this OK, but it must be very traumatic for him, as close as he and his mom have been.

I'll keep you posted.

FBA

PS: I called Esther last night and told her what was happening. She went by the hospital to see Betty but could not because no visitors were allowed at that point. She was going to try again today. I'll be going up to Fresno as soon as school is out at 3:00.
If you're the praying type, your prayers would be appreciated. Even if they are just that she doesn't suffer long. Last that I saw my aunt was at my mom's funeral 3 years ago. I don't get back to CA often, and when I do, I usually don't get as far north as Fresno, and she rarely makes it as far south as Tulare. She's 73, so it's not premature.

my thoughts & prayers to you & your family during this trying time.
if you can, go spend time w/ her & your family..

celebrate her life..

after a palliative care lecture today i was thinking of my great-grandmother who passed away 2 yrs ago. when she was in hospice she still had her wits & asked me to unlock the patio door then to pick her up outside in a few minutes.. she was planning on making a run for it. i remember her vibrant spirit more than the pain of her passing.

best wishes TTT

I moved back to take care of my mom for her last 3 months (cancer). As she got weaker and weaker, her sense of humor got stronger. Here I was, helping her sit upright on the toilet, since she couldn't keep from falling over on her own, and she said "this is payback for all those diaper bombs you made me clean up!" I guess revenge must be nice when you've been waiting 25 years for it.

Another time, while she was stronger, but not steady on her feet, she was walking down the hallway (very wobbly) using both her and my dad's canes. My brothers and I teased her that she looked like a baby giraffe taking its first steps.

It wasn't a fun job taking care of her, and it really was a job at the time. But now that I think back, I'm glad I was there for her. My 2 best friends' moms have also passed, and both of them regret not being there for them. One (also cancer), she told him not to move back to take care of her because she didn't want him to remember her like that. The other was a surprise and his last words to her were "I'm busy right now. I'll call you back later".

I've told my dad that I've got a weeks vacation/sick time coming. I just need to break the news to my boss that I've gotta take off. I'm sure he'll be cool about it, but he'll have to juggle the other 5 techs to find someone to work my shift (6pm-6:30am). I'm going to send him an email to give him some advanced warning, and then let him know once I've scheduled the trip.
