Girlfriend wants me to
move to Chicago to find a good job so that we can get married soon. I'd be living in a mutual friend's house for $175/mo. I like the town and all, but not the idea of me giving up my guns.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but made you can store your guns at a range out in the suburbs? But yes, Chicago/Cook County and some others are very anti gun.

Chicago is a great city to visit - which I do daily - but their gun laws are just for the sheeple. Store your firearms with a very good friend or family member. You do not want the headaches of having a "goodie two-shoe" report you for a violation.

I decided a long time ago that if someone that allegedly loved me asked me to give up something I really liked (that wasn't illegal or unhealthy) for them that they probably didn't love me as much as they thought. If they did they would accept that you are who you are and not ask you to change something about yourself for them.

I let a relationship go after 6 yrs cuz there was no way in hell I was moving to Texas. Of course there was more to it than that but that was part of it. Moving for some else is typically not a very good situation. A relationship involves compromise not ultimatum.
