The gun angle doesn't help her case either, but first and foremost think about what Don said...

if that is the case, the OP has a decision to make. the fact that the OP said "I like the town and all, but not the idea of me giving up my guns." tells me that there is more to think about in this relationship than moving. if a person isn't willing to give up something like a gun for another person, then obviously that girlfriend isn't worth it. if she was, then this post would not have been made.

As a livelong Illinois resident - I say come on board. This may be controversial - but I want all the pro-2nd amendment people here that I can get. Don't live in Cook county or Chicago proper though. You cannot CCW anywhere in Illinois, but there is a site called Illinois Carry - A Website Dedicated To Advancing Conceal Carry For Illinois filled with people who are working towards changing that.
This is not a great place to live if you like your firearms, but the more people that move away the worse its going to get. There are places to shoot, and you can own and keep your firearms in your house. Work from within - we can WIN this.

Although she is my gf right now, we've been together for 4 years. I even broke up with her a couple of years ago 'cause there were other factors going on, but we've cleared that up and moved past it all and now that we're back together, I can't think of leaving again. In fact, we're even closer together and love each other more now than we were back then.
She does support my right to bear arms, join the NRA, and is actually glad when I do carry (a couple of instances proved that to her). She gets mad at the mentality of the gun grabbers, although she doesn't want to shoot(She gets startled by opening a can of Pillsbury crescent rolls I'm in a place that my job cannot even afford me to buy a ring, let alone marry the girl. I've even had to quit going to the range for a little bit to save $$$ and with gas being $4 here in MI, well, you all feel my pain too. I understand what she's thinking. She doesn't want me to give up my weapons at all, she just is looking at a city with a potentially better job market than where I'm at now. Sorry that I didn't elaborate earlier. And yes, I do agree that people you love > inanimate objects. Those inanimate objects can provide the security of keeping those people alive to continue loving you, but the idea of going to a place that strips me of my ability to do just that so that we can further our relationship... I just can't do that. Last edited by shavago : 05-13-2008 at 10:28 AM. |
