This is all fine and good, but I wouldn't even move to another gun friendly state if it meant leaving Texas. That's one reason I married another Native Texan that didn't have family connections elsewhere.

Chicago is a great Town. I miss it alot. I grew up there, and even met my wife there. If you live in the Burbs, you can have your guns, just not in the city proper. You will need to get a FOID(firearm owners ID card) as soon as you get there, or you cant buy ammo.

Just think you will be closer to Springfield, and all the other cool gun stores.

When I met my wife, we were together for years. I got a job offer to move to florida. I told my (now) wife she could come with if she wanted. She did, and a few years later we got married. If you hadnt gone with me, we wouldn't be married. All you have to do is just ask yourself, "what is she worth to me?" You can still go to the range in chicago, just can't concealed carry...but who knows. When the whole supreme court/2nd ammentment hearing in DC, things could change soon.

I agree that Chicago is a great city. Unfortunately, Chicago has a handgun ordinance that bans them in the city limits. If you owned a handgun prior to the 1983 (IIRC) enactment, you could still own one but need to re-register every two years. I do not know if that is still the requirement.

I live far enough away that my area is not considered a suburb. I can alos tell you that Illinois has many areas that are very pro-gun and hunting, target shooting and collecting are all alive and doing well. After reading all the reasoning I stand by my original statement: Anyone who asks you to give up something you love for them doesn't love you enough to accept you as you are. It is one thing if you decide, but for them to even ask is a big red flag of an ulterior motive hiding in the shadows.

Don't move to Chicago or Cook county for that matter. If need be, move to one of the county's where they passed a pro-second amendment vote. Currently there are 81 counties in Illinois that have voted to uphold the states constitution and not violate a citizens rights to arm themselves. The closest to Chicago would probably be Kendal county which just passed this last week.
google pro second amendment illinois, or something like that to check out the website.

if she is really worth it try to move outside chicago or have her come to you..me personally i'd never move there unless the gun laws drastically change. try to comprimise,tell her she is important to you which is the reason she needs to work with you meet half way whatever cause you want to be able to protect not only yourself but her as well..never give up all of your guns you will regret it trust me i have one and i used to have 6..i miss them all.

I guess that since Chicago is so anti-gun then there must not be many shooting murders there. Oh wait a minute, didn't they say on the news that they have a bunch of shootings? Maybe they just don't want law abiding folks to have guns.
