Since he is a celeb, my prediction is, that it will be reduced to a misdemeanor, he will be find a couple hundred bucks, and the charge of not having it registered in California will be dropped. He will not get the gun back.

If that happened to me or you, we'd be screwed.

also...HE IS NOT A COP ANYMORE! He's an actor. just because you USED to be a cop doesn't mean you aren't still held accountable to the law that everyone else abides by.

I USED to be a maintenance worker...should i be able to take my old maintenance vehicle and drive into restricted areas because i USED to work there? no.

Why should an actor who USED to be a cop get preferential treatment when anyone here would be arrested and most likely lose our rights to own a gun?
You still don't understand what I'm saying. It has nothing to do with the laws of flying armed or not being random or not. If you fly a lot, how many times have you gotten to altitude and realized your phone is on? It's law and has been for a long time that your cell phone be turned off. Did you know that you can be charged with a felony for not turning your phone off in flight? I know the law. I turn mine off but occasionaly I forget and realize that I didn't turn it off. It's human habit. Do I deserve to have my life ruined because I didn't turn my cell phone off. Technically a felony. Oh but if I wasn't charged than in your book I'd be treated specially.

Purposely driving your car into a restricted area by swiping a card is not something you do by mistake. Carrying a small caliber pistol in your bag when driving and forgetting to check that particular pocket when there are 15 hidden pockets in your bag before you go through airport security is a behavorial human error in most cases.

I could care less that Farina is an actor or former cop. I've met the man on several occasions and he's a very good person. I don't think he's a terrorist and he did what all humans do; make mistakes. Should he have been more careful. Yes. Should he be let go scott-free. No. Should he be convicted of a felony. Not in my opinion. No one should get off scott-free or it just sends a signal that you can do it unless you get caught. Most crimes are pre-meditated. This one is not. That's the difference. Should an Air Marshall that flies around armed all the time be charged with a felony and lose his job and career because he was going on vacation with his wife and kids and accidentally left a round in his bag and went through security? That's a felony technically. There needs to be some reasonableness and I think there will be in Farina's case.

Beefs against cops or actors is not justification of punishment. Next time I see you on a flight and you mistakenly leave your cell phone on I'll make sure the crew has you arrested for a felony. The punishment must fit the crime. Maximum penalty is a felony and it's just so that the left coast cops chose to indite Farina on a felony.

Are you really going to compare leaving a gun in your briefcase with a cell phone? C'mon...thats naive at best. It is legal to bring a cell phone through airport security, its NOT legal to bring a gun through airport security. have you been to an airport lately? all the signs, announcments, etc, i'm not buying the "its habit" excuse. it is entirely possible he just forgot. But the fact remains that he did something wrong and you want to give him a pass for it.

honestly...how do you forget where you put your gun? has this EVER happened to anyone here? I accept that it probably WAS a mistake. But it was a mistake at the wrong place and he should NOT get a free pass for it. Gun owners abide by the same rules EVERY DAY. Why does he get a pass for being an ex cop?

I don't think he's a terrorist either. Thats a strawman argument. You're attacking a position i never made. With the air marshal argument, you're comparing apples to oranges. An air marshal is a federal agent, whereas this guy is a citizen. and what does premeditation have to do with anything? Just because you didn't mean to do it doesn't mean you haven't committed a crime. I don't mean to let the parking meter expire, but that doesn't stop me from getting a ticket. By your logic, if i didn't premeditate to let the timer expire, i shouldn't get a ticket for it right?

And now your being ridiculous. I'm not buying the "its easy to misplace a gun" argument. Its absurd. You said you've met this guy. Is it possible you're letting your personal feelings get in the way? I've got no beef against actors or cops. But you seem to want preferential treatment for them. You know as well as i do that if it were me or you we'd be getting a felony. This guy should NOT be held to a different standard that you or I would. the entire point is that you are essentially arguing for treating this guy differently than a regular citizen based on arbitrary factors. I'm against preferential treatment for anyone.
