Obviously Joeywhat and I have different views, but, I'm sure we both agree on this one thing: try before you buy. |

Quote: Sorry, but your own quote starts off with "Also, Macs can't really get viruses either". You really should have said "Macs are less likely to get a virus." That would be more accurate and actually be supported by the rest of your paragraph. If Macs were as popular as windows then the majority of viruses would be written for them. Not trying to argue here, just saying please be more clear in your assertions.

Thank you for pointing that out. The whole time I thought I wrote "Macs DON'T really get viruses," which is what I meant, so sorry for that.
And, yes, if Macs were more popular than PC's they would have many more viruses programmed for them. I agree. |

No problem man. I figured that is what was going on. I just didn't want to see a flame war started over a simple misunderstanding.

Being a former member of Tech Support for various companies, I can tell you that Macs are sooooo much easier to talk people through. They may not have the near-infinite customizability of a PC, but they are simple, clean and tend to work consistently.
... Except for iTunes. It was always interesting to me to watch the PC queue and the Mac queue in my various tech support jobs. The PC queue was back-to-back all day every day. The Mac queue often had HOURS between calls. I know that there are proportionally fewer Macs to Windows machines, but there were proportionally fewer techs, too. ... of course the Mac techies would always complain b/c the people who couldn't figure out how to work their mac were often REEEAALLY computer illiterate (or just plain dumb). Get a mac. They're overpriced, but they work very very well and are shiny.

Honestly, I'd switch to Mac in a heartbeat if they weren't so dang expensive. I just bought a Dell Vostro 1300 for $700. A comparable mac would've cost me over $1500.

Thoughts, and Solutions.

You might have just had a bad stick on ran in your machine, and that was the whole problem. Quote:
At the end of the day. If you remove the user from the equation, and look at the computers, they are just that. Computers. They both have CPUs, memory, HDs, CD-R's, Etc. the only difference is the OS. And just like the Glock comparison...Use what you like, and don't push your preference on anyone else(that's not an accusation, just a statement about the common mac user). I have friends tell me all the time I should get a mac. I tell them I like to play games, and can do anything on my PC that I can do on a mac, but I need windows for programs for work. They tell me....but you can install windows on it!!!!........Then WHY would I get a mac????? Sorry I got so distracted. But to the OP. Check you sound panel, and make sure none of the controls are set too low. While you can have your main volume at max, your "wave" can be set to 0 by a program, and it wont make any noise. To get to this, just double click your speaker icon in the system tray, or go to control panel/sounds. Under the volume tab, click advanced, and check your levels. If that fails, try reinstalling your sound card driver, as something might have corrupted the driver, like a HD glitch while writing data. I hope this helps, and if you need any further clarification, feel free to PM me.

Thanks to everyone for offering their advice on my problem and thoughts on Mac's.
I could easily play this off as if I was some computer guru (except that I am not since I had to ask for help!!! Thanks again!
