Morley decided to go inside the house, ... and retrieve his handgun to fend off the intruder.
The dumb bunny deserved to get shot!

For 1. not keeping his gun with him, and 2. going into the house to get his gun while the intruder was in the house.

Ok just to point out, I"d go into the house, a few times on this forum we've had other members go into the house. Now would I go into the house without a condition 0 weapon? HECK NO.... well maybe actually if I had friends in there I'd still enter, considering I live with other people, yeah I would but thats another issue. If you know the house is empty and you don't have a gun, your insane.

To not shoot someone that is oviously either insane or desperate enough to charge someone with a gun, thats just foolishness. I do like the 4:137 ratio on who's weapon gets turned on who. Thats 1:30, apparently criminals really are stupid.

What an idiot... I am ashamed to say that this happened in my home town.

I think the best thing you could do is cover the door that the burglar is stacking the stuff by (assuming you didn't LEAVE YOUR GUN AT HOME, YOU DUMBASS!) and call the cops. If the burglar comes out, maintain distance, check for weapons, order to the ground. If BG charges you for a wrestling match, let him wrestle with a .45 slug in the gut.

O.k., I can see going across the street to visit with someone and leaving your gun at home. Not all of us carry a gun at all times (but should). BUT, upon returning home you notice your belongings outside your door and you realize you left your weapon in the house, go the other direction and call the cops. You are unarmed! Don't walk into the house unarmed against an intruder that could be armed with his own gun, OR YOURS.

Flat Dumb!

Owning a gun is protected in the Constitution but it doesn't provide for the inteligence of the owner. Let's face it, there are some stupid gun owners out there and yes, they do give us a bad name.

All that said I'll withold final judgment on the guy until all the fact are out there. If, for example, there had been a rash of roberies perpetrated by juvi's I might be inclined to suspect the BG was a kid and not an adult criminal. Also, the actual sequence of events is unclear to me and it's possible the home owner was ambushed as he investigated his home.

I think the LEO's here probably have the best input given the training they have to deal with situations just like this. It does look like the home owner should have called the police and simply maintained visual contact with the home. Did the BG have a car/truck? License plate #?

yep saw it and still don't believe he went in to get his gun, what the hell was he doing without it? And how could he let the guy get that close to him..he might as well have had a feather duster.
