Cali - nice place to visit but would never live there. Soon Americans will need a passport to enter your state.

CA Bill search -

The California State Assembly

Kevin de León (the guy that wrote this)

45th Assembly District which includes East Hollywood, Echo Park, Elysian Valley, Mt. Washington, Lincoln Heights and portions of Los Angeles.

Its funny how people assume that California is full of crazy tree huggin anti everything. People like gavin newsome who want to be governor are constantly doing things to put their name in the news. Ive seen him in person, his hair looks bullet proof. Its the highly populized areas that generate votes, and not so much rural areas. Check your own state stats. I am sure that more votes are cast in urban areas than rural. People need to stop complaining and start voting.

I meant when one of the Dem's get in office, they'll probably pass some piece of crap or another that won't let us buy semi-auto rifles of any type.

I read the bill proposal but I'm not sure I understand it.
In comparison, here in Croatia you DO have to obtain firearm permit in order to have a gun and u usually wait for 30 days to get it (which is a formality if you don't have a criminal record etc.).

Once u get the permit, you can buy as much ammo as you want but of course, every time you buy ammo, you show you gun permit to the seller and he writes in the book your info and type of ammo.

To be honest, this has never been problem for me as I could always buy countless number of rounds. There is no restrction.

Is the same in this bill of yours or there's a limited number of rounds you can buy?

Is Croatia, part of the EU?

I thought countries in the EU had strict gun laws.

We're still not part of EU. As for our gun laws, well, it goes like this:

You can apply for a permit and have to wait some 30 days or so. During that period of time, they check if you have a criminal record and a police officier pays you a visit home (just to make sure everything's fine in a casual conversation). You also have to undergo a medical and psychological test.

After a month or so, you get a permit and can obtain a firearm for keeping it at home, NOT for carrying it. You can use it for self-defense (but in an responsible fashion, use the deadly force only if there's no other choice) and for shooting range/competitions.

You can buy as much ammo as you want.

Basically, if you don't have a criminal record and have no serious health or mental issues, you'll get your permit and you can keep your handgun or rifle at home.

The only problem is the byrocracy, you have to wait 30 freaking days and of course, carry permits are rarely issued, only to security officiers and to those who can convince the police their life is in danger and they need to carry a weapon with them.

The law has its downsides but comparing to GB and some other countries, I'm fairly satisfied with it. There are two types of permits, the standard and sportsman permit. Those who compete actively (like I do) can get new guns even easier (just need a paper from your gun club for verification and it's just a matter of formality).

Yeah everyone around here is pissed about this new supposed bill. I've sent my emails, faxes and so on but it still scares me that this stupid crap can even make it to the Assembly.
