TOTP!

I have nothing to add, just haven't had a TOTP in a while.

We now return to your regularly scheduled postings.

About 5 years ago things were starting to go sideways at home and I needed to get out of the house at times. Just needed to decompress. Not being very creative, I figured my choices were a bar or a gym; I chose the gym.

So far it's worked out. I'm in great shape and not an alcoholic (according to everybody except my wife).

15 months ago my Dr. said "your tests are in!! You have high blood pressure, sugar is high, cholesterol is over 300, triglycerides are high, liver enzymes are too high. And you are overweight!! I will write you prescriptions to keep it in check, you will be miserable but alive. Or you can get on a training program and turn it around before its too late."

Got home from Dr. office, wife said "how did your physical go?"
I replied "No problems, just need to loose 10 lbs!" - She knew I was full of it.

Started at the gym the next day. 15 months later,
Down 110 lbs.
All test numbers are optimum & without prescriptions.
44 waist to a 34 waist.
XXXL shirt to a L

I use the elliptical 71 min - 10 miles and approx 1300 calories.
Followed by 20 min - stationary bike for 5 miles and approx 200 calories.
Followed by cool down on the track 1/2 mile or 5 laps.
* I use weights 2 days a week in lieu of the bike.

I go 5 days a week at 4:30 am, have not missed a day in 15 months.

Working out is like shooting, they are both addicting!

I dunno, I'm just under six feet, been lifting on and off for five years, practically lived on the gym floor the last three. I weigh 125 and bench about 195, and lift 3-4 days a week. I stay outside a lot hunting, horseback riding, or doing other kinds of high-stress activities. I'd consider myself healthy.

And lifting is like shooting- extremely addictive.

The way it's been explained to me, depending on genetics and lifestyle, you shouldn't always go by the BMI or height-weight charts. If you're 125lbs and lift, etc regularly, it's to be expected that you may either go a little below or above the average accepted weight, and still be considered in good health.

Those who walk and run, try this site, my wife uses it and swears by it for tracking and mapping out her daily run.

Wow...71 minutes on the elliptical or treadmill ....that might kill me! LOL

I can only stand it for 45 minutes each day. I do HIIT training on these machines...so that probably takes more out of me. I am a huge proponent of HIIT training.

Yep, I do 45 minutes of HIIT every day, plus sit-ups, push-ups, crunches and stretching. No heavy weights.

Keeps me thin, as long as I stay away from the foods I love! LOL

5ft 9in and 166 pounds.

Guys, soda and sugar is NOT what makes us fat. That's one of the most common misconceptions. Sitting all day (inactivity), not doing any excercises and eating late at evening (irregular diet) IS what makes us fat.

Some 6 months ago, I weighted 125 kgs (I'm 6 feet tall) and then I decided to loose weight as I could barely run and walking upstairs was a real biatch.

On this day, I weight app. 97 kgs. What did I do to achive this?

Simple: for the last 6 months, almost every day spent at least an hour in gym, all sorts of excercises including 30 minutes of stepper machine (I don't know how you call it but you're like "climbing") and pushups and weight lifting.

I would NEVER eat anything AFTER 1700hrs, especially not after the training BUT before 1700hrs I would eat as much as I want, whatever I want.

The training would usually start at 1900hrs in the evening (after work) and once I was done with it, nothing in mouth afterwards (except for water).

In the begining it was really hard but with the time, organism adjusts and evening hunger is no longer an issue.

To some, this may look a bit "spartanic" way of loosing weight, but it worked for me.

I must be the only dude on the forum either trying to gain or maintain his current body weight.

When I was still considering applying for a USMA candidacy, I'd lift, bike 6-8 miles on the weekends, get in some shooting practice after school, and I also hunted on some extremely difficult terrain- hip deep mud and swamps.

I'm doing the same thing three years later, on a high-protein diet, eating a good amount of carbs (body's main energy source) and I'm still maintaining my current weight. What can I say, I love cooking and I love lifting- so it works out for me.
