I'm not as regimented as you guys but I figured I needed to do something. Now I ride my bike as much as possible, hit the gym and do eliptical trainer for 30 mins about twice a week, play hockey on Saturday and am trying to keep active rather than sitting on the couch. Diet comes next and I'm also trying to quit smoking.

The thing is to not try to do too much or to feel like you've failed if you skip a day of exercising or dieting.

I'm 27, overweight (I need to lose 15-20 pounds), and I have high cholesterol. I've basically cut all fried foods (although I do slip every so often), have tried to cut all sweets and desserts, and I drink mostly unsweet tea (although I do have a coke every now and then). I've also started running 30 minutes to an hour a day, but owning my own restaurant and working on a MBA has kept me from running the past couple of days. The crazy thing is that I don't really run because of weight loss but instead because it feels good and it keeps me from getting so tired during the day. It's crazy that exercising can do that for you.

Just started working out again this week too. Man, I didn't realize how out of shape I am. I am trying to get ready for the agility test to get into the law enforcement academy and let me tell you...I am not that agile.

I used to be a lady's man a few years ago, now I look like a man's lady. Not good!

thanks for all the encouragement guys! glad to know people had/have the same problem and work at it as well. I'm pretty lucky, i haven't had a regular soda in years. My senior year in high school i was hitting the gym daily, walking 9 holes of golf daily, and switched from regular to diet pepsi. I was 5'11" and about 190lbs, now i'm 5'11" and well....yeah too many pounds I'd like to get down to around 200lbs...(not too quickly i know that losing it too fast isn't healthy ) My GF is working towards a minor in nutrition so we've got a good meal plan going as well...

again, thanks for the encouragement

I'm 6' 145lbs and I'm very active. I have a physical job, work out a couple times a week generally. and I can not gain any muscle mass(or fat for that matter). I've been stuck at this weight for 2-3 years now.

You can gain muscle, if youre having a hard time see a professional. My advice would just be to hit the gym 6 days a week, eat high protein/fiber/carb foods.

Seems like spring time is everyone's chance to get out and get in shape around her. The wife and I have been trying to do this as well. She had our first born about 7.5 weeks ago, so she wanted to try and lose the baby weight. We found a little park near our house, and have been walking 2 to 2.5 miles a few nights a week. We had a good routing going and then had some family come to visit us for a few days and that got us off the schedule. This week it has been just us, and we walked 2 miles on Tuesday, 2.5 last night, and are going for 2.5 or 3 tonight. We take the baby and the stroller and just do a few laps. One lap is .5 mile, so we usually get 4-5 laps in. That, plus just eating healthier seems to be working. I know it probably sounds cliche, but we've been both drinking a slim-fast for breakfast. That, plus lean turkey sandwiches at lunch, and either grilled or baked chicken at night, and we have both seen a little progress. We got rid of all the junk food in the house, which also helps. If you don't buy it, you won't eat it.

It's made a real difference in how I feel and the weight has dropped off from 220 to 192 (6' tall). My Doc has told me that if I keep this up I might be rewarded with an extra 10-20 years or so. It's really worth it man, keep it up.
Wow, now I feel like a real fat azz.. Im 6'1 250 What frame build are you? small med. or lrg? I'm large.

Same here. The only trap I've found is that if you set it up in an out of the way place it gets forgotten about. I set mine up right next to the bed so it's the first thing I see in the morning. If they would just put a decent amount of resistance on it from the factory it would be even better. I've been wanting to upgrade mine forever and never have.

Another useful tip is to actually schedule your workout time. If you try to just do it when you have some time you'll never have any time. Pick a time to work out, write it on a calendar if you have to, and stick to it.
