Be glad you have the choice, some people don't. Like it's been said, it's a personal choice to carry at all. As I understand it, in AK you don't need a permit to carry concealed or openly so take your pick. Just imagine though if you were ever in a situation where you thought you needed, but didn't have it for whatever reason. Could you live with the consequences?

A gun should be part of your wardrobe. You should feel utterly nude leaving home without one.

On a side note: lol at Alaskan gang bangers. Just block MTV and BET and the problem will go away.

I don't have to tell you, as it has been mentioned, bad things happen to good people. Just the other day, in a wealthy area and in broad daylight, a women pulled into Wal Mart to go grocery shopping. A car pulled in beside her and a man jumped out and started to beat her with some object. Shortly after, they found him and arrested him. The motive was??? THERE WASN'T ANY. For reasons like these are why I carry.

Exactly you just never know. I live in a low crime area but the areas all around me have much more crime. The criminals dont just stick to the ghettos and bad parts of town, they like to have field trips into the nicer sections of town to take what they want hence why even in my low crime suberb of Toledo,OH I hear mass amounts of sirens all the time. I have a family to protect and the criminals can and will get to you anywhere if they so desire it. Since you do not need a permit in Alaska I'd buy a quality concealment holster and do a trail run for a week or so to see how you like it.

Anyway i would like opinions and advice if I should carry or not. Btw I will be taking a home defense/CC class regardless I just am up in the air about CC.
Similar to Seat Belts and a Fire extinguishers; the chances of you getting into a Car wreck or encountering a Fire may be minimal, however, should the need arise, it's better to have firearm and not need it, than to need it and not have it!!

If you are not sure about CC, how about OC! It would fit very well with your outgoing personality. I started a month ago and I love it!

I am going to give you plain talk. Carrying a concealed weapon is a HUGE responsibility. You are instantly capable of taking a human life. You are held to a high standard of behavior. If you fail that standard, you will lose your carry license.

You must learn the laws of your state and any other state you intend to carry that gun in. You have to learn the rules for the use of deadly force and know them inside out to the finest detail. Failure to do so can mean the difference between your being free or going to prison for a long, long time as a convicted felon.

You have to learn how to walk away from confrontations that ordinarily you would mix it up to defend your honor. Your gun prevents you from getting into most little squabbles. You simply have too much to lose.

You will have difficult decisions to make and you will find yourself thinking about life in a totally different way... a tactical way. When you might have been simply enjoying a garden, you will be examining possible exit routes and the availability of cover and concealment. You will have to decide when situations are genuinely threatening or escalating and start drawing very fine lines concerning your own behavior.

I could talk about a hundred other things that you will face. The bottom line is that carrying concealed is a life-changing event. If you are not committed to this lifestyle... that of an armed citizen... get yourself a can of pepper spray and enjoy shooting in your leisure time at the range or when hunting.

Carrying concealed isn't for everyone.

That said, you could have all the logical answers in your head, but it is still a personal decision that needs to be made by you. Hopefully your carry class is as good as mine was, and if it is I think that will help you make your decision. Some people just aren't cut out to carry, and they shouldn't violate that. Carrying is a huge responsibility that takes dedication. It is not a decision to make flippantly. I think that as you process this more, and take the class your mind will be made up.

I went through the same process and in the end I learned what it meant to carry and became sure of my decision to do so.
Excelent post, good points and advice. Only the person can make their mind up about the decision.

Excellent post and points.

It is a very big decision to make. Only you can honestly make that decision, after lots of careful consideration.

Remember, if you ever shoot anyone, even in a truely 100% jsutifiable self defense.....You will be going to court, criminal court. You will win, if it is 100% justifable self defense.

After winning that, you may well end up in civil court with the person you shot's family trying to sue you, or the person you shot if they live....

Are you prepared to deal with going to court....

The bad guy don't only operate in the "bad" part of town. Be ready for them anywhere! Hopefully you will never have to demonstrate your preparedness.
