The Mythbusters test of tailing tractor trailers yeilded some amazing results! Even following them 100 feet back cuts your mileage significantly. I feel safe following a semi at 100 feet doing 70, but the guys who totally tailgate them are just asking for trouble.

Yawn. There are very few "tips" that will legitimately help your mileage. The best thing you can do is keep your car well maintained and drive it sanely, beyond that it's an excercise in futility. On the highway drafting helps significantly. I know every little bit helps, but how much are you really going to save?

The following quote has been attributed to Sigmund Freud. However, I don't find this in any of his books. Can you?

I have been bike commuting 2 or 3 days from late spring through october for the last 3 years. My commute is 13 miles each way. I have had some white knuckle moments but I've gotten more savvy at dealing with traffic, when its safe to make a move across traffic and when it's not. As much as possible I avoid the main traffic routes and never let my guard down except the most deserted backroads. You have to always assume they don't see you no matter how bright your clothes are.

I started not so much to save gas, although it is a big plus, but this was about the only way I could get my workout in during the week.
