Gun control at work?

FOXNews.com - Violent Weekend Rocks Chicago: 36 Shootings, 9 Homicides - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News

Monday, April 21, 2008

CHICAGO — An outburst of gunfire rattled the city during the weekend, with at least nine people killed in 36 separate acts of violence.

The shootings were reported from Friday until Monday morning, police spokeswoman Monique Bond said Monday. They included gang shootings, drive-by attacks, and even one case in which someone used an AK-47 to shoot up a plumbing supply store.

Then on Monday evening, a man was shot to death and three other people were wounded in a robbery attempt at a McDonald's, police said.
Authorities did not immediately say whether any of the weekend shootings were thought to be related.

Police Superintendent Jody Weis blamed an excess of guns and gangs.

"There are just too many weapons here," Weis said Sunday. "Too many guns, too many gangs."

During the same weekend last year, there were 19 shootings, including four homicides, and 21 shootings were reported during the same weekend in 2006, police statistics show.

New police data released Saturday showed Chicago's murder rate for March was down about 1 percent from March 2007.

Too many guns, too many gangs...

So if you are going to take away the rights of the people and ban guns, might as well take away the right of assembly and ban gangs too, right?

It couldnt have been an issue of too many gangs with guns because chicago has some VERY strict gun laws and we all know that criminals respect the gun laws

There could not have been that many killings with handguns in Chicago.

Handguns are outlawed there. So I just do not believe the story.

Just goes to show when you out law handguns, only the criminals have guns

They have not yet totaly baned hand guns here yet. Just trying to make then useless by make it so you can only have 6 rd mags. And we are supposed to look up to the law makers. You can't ban guns BGs just get them from everywhere else and bring them in guns will never go away. Like Mary Jane.

"Too many guns. Too many gangs."

Hmmm. I think I can fix that.

"Too many guns illegally possessed by convicted criminals who are not allowed to have them. Too many scumbags out on parole. Too many scumbags getting plea deals. Not enough arrests. Not enough prosecutions. Not enough cops on the street. Too few parents. Too few families. Too little individual responsibility. Too few honest folk with the ability to protect themselves."

There. That's better.
