Ive had to have the clucth replaced in my wifes car 2 times not and each one lasted a bit over 70,000 miles. I dont know if its the way she drives or what but it gets expensive.

being as a clutch is worn based on how its driven, you may not get any warranty out of it. I would bargain for parts or labor and see how it goes.

Good luck, trust me when i say I know your pain.

The dealership told me to suck a toad.

I then tried to barter for parts/labor.

The dealership then told me to stick the toad up my ass.

So I don't know what to do. I think I am going to put a for sale sign in the window until I find a dealership with a car I want.

It's not worth it if I have to spend $1k every other year to fix this clutch on top of the other stuff that goes wrong with every car.

The biggest bitch is that I only owe $3,500 on this thing ><. Depressing to realize that I am probably going to start a new 5 year loan.

I was going to say, $1000.00 a year is alot cheaper than a car payment, till I saw that you still owe on it. The bad news is that you may not get the money from it that you want if its not running up to par. My advice is to get it fixed and then sell it. Right now if its slipping, it may leave you stranded.

What the hell would that have to do with it? I have never seen a glazed surface cause a torque curve slip.

To the OP. Unless the parts used were inferior parts, I believe that your clutch skills may be lacking a little bit. Not meant to be a throw down on your skills, just that some people are inherently harder on clutches than others.

This may be the case, but it should last more than 16k-19k miles right?

I am not dropping the clutch or riding it out the whole time. Nothing that makes any kind of bad smells. I figured that is how you would have to drive it to kill it that quick.

It's tough without riding with you. I have been in the car with lots of people who just did not realize that the way they were working it was hard on it. The rev's on takeoff, combined with a slower release, really hit them hard. Or if you have a common hill\steep driveway that you have to go from a stop daily, this will also be tough on it.

And yes, you should not be changing the clutch anywhere near that frequently.

Does it say on your receipt what parts were used? Did they use factory equipment or did they sell you into an aftermarket set because of price?

The last shop I worked with had a customer with an 01 Camaro and the kid had to have 6 clutches in the first 20k miles. He drove like an idiot and didn't know how to drive a manual trans in the first place. If he can go through a clutch every 3k-4k miles, you can go through one in under 20k. It's almost a by product of modern cars not having enough low end grunt to get moving without clutch slippage. The original clutch in my truck was in it for almost 200k miles, and then only got replaced because the trans was getting replaced and we were in there anyway, but all I have to do is let it idle and dump it and off it goes.

The clutch in my 1990 S10 lasted about forever. It was sold with 240k miles on it. I know the trans was going bad, not sure if the clutch was ever replaced. I was young and dumb with that truck though hehe.

I really don't beat on this one. I think it may just be a fix it on the credit card situation, but I'm not taking it back to that place. Screw them.
