im doing this during day time, guaging the average joe, law abbiding citizens reaction to OC.. not walking the streets at night or in high risk areas with my gun in plain sight.. if i was doing any of the latter of course i would be concealed carrying..

btw this thread isnt about the dangers of OC so please lets keep it on topic.

Hey Laz...

Not arguing here...

But is this substantiated?
I mean Cops don't get robbed to often.

When was the last time you saw a cop walking the streets? Uniform is a deterrent but I know of offduty cops that were robbed at gun point. One was in Newark, offduty and the thug just wanted his wallet. If the guy would have seen his gun or even looked inside the wallet the chances of the cop surviving would have went down, I'm willing to bet.

im willing to bet youre wrong.. i think the fact that the thug was waiting to mug someone, had he seen someone with a gun, he would have just said, hmm, ill wait a few minutes till this guy is a couple blocks away and target someone else.. most bad guys are cowards and prey on the innocent and weak..

What's the purpose of finding out peoples reactions? Are you going to compare them to the reactions of people in a different state or are you just curious?

Are you serious? You obviously have never been to high crime areas like Baltimore, Camden or Newark at night time. Guns fetch premiums on the streets and don't think that every criminal is a coward because they aren't . I hope you never travel outside of your bubble because that mentality will get you killed out on the street

its a harmless experiment.. i just want to see how people respond, to get a feel for the general attitude towards open carry/people seeing guns in public, of the people in my area..

Hi Jcabin,

I did the same thing as you are planning to do here in Kentucky several years ago.....Kentucky is a very "gun friendly" state and after i got my CCW permit years ago i tried open carry for a few months.......

i found you get a different reaction depending on the type of urban environment you are carrying in....

I live in Lexington which is a medium sized city. Open carry drew LOTS of unwanted attention everywhere i went. Almost every store i went to i was followed by some type of store personnel. I was asked to leave a couple times because of a stores "no weapons" policy, which was bull**** because there was never any " no weapons" sign posted anywhere....i just dont understand places like that who think their policy is going to keep them from being robbed???????

Eating in a restaurant drew stares from people and an unusual discomfort from people.

everywhere i went i would be watched like a hawk scoping out prey and it was very uncomfortable for me...all the soccer moms and the firearm illiterate would be staring a hole through me

even though i knew it was perfectly legal to open carry it gave me a very uneasy feeling carrying a Glock pistol out in the open....

that was my city experience......

now i also open carried in rural counties in Kentucky and it was completely different experience...nobody even gave me a second look carrying a gun, and more often than not got asked what kind of piece i was carrying, also noting that several other people open carried also....

bottom line is that it is not worth the attention and hassle to open carry, even if you are in a gun friendly state...i would much rather have my gun completely hidden than to draw unwanted attention from people....
