An interesting couple newspaper articles about our Governor - CCW related

Just to be clear, I think Gov. Gibbons is a lying, cheating POS . . . I believe almost anything he says is S*IT.

Now that that is out in the open:

Your telling me you have to qualify with every handgun you own? I'm not interested in carrying my luger 22.... honestly come one! If you buy a new handgun you have to retest? I've never heard of this before talk to me about your laws they seem unusual.

No,

you have to Requalify on every semi-automatic you want to carry.

What happened was, Gov Gibbons got his permit, and qualified on 7 of the 9 handguns he might have wanted to carry, he told the instructor "I'll come back in a few days and qualify on the other two" so the instructor preemptively signed his paperwork for all 9 handguns. He never came back to qualify on the other two.

I guess that is better than no permit at all.

But couldn't he just not carry those 2 and be done? "we''l just take those off my list, I won't carry them" Or was it because the permit already had them listed?

Ok that sorta makes sense, but if you buy a new handgun you want to carry as I imagine a lot of people getting the new little ruger and the .45 XD compact. Can you just go to the police department and have them spot check you? Or do you have to pay the hundreds of dollars all over again.

What robinsre said. The mfg, model and caliber of semi-autos is printed on the back of our permits. Just last year the law was changed to allow any revolvers is good for all revolvers. I'm told there is a similar bill to do this with semi-autos too but I'm not 100% positive about that and I know it's not signed into law if one exists anyway, obviously . . .

IMHO this is not a matter of poor discretion on the part of the governor, but on the part of his instructor.

As a CCW instructor here I will NEVER sign someone off on a handgun they did not qualify with. Not because I am uncomfortable with them carrying it, but because I signed my name to a paper that said I would follow a specific set of laws and teaching curriculum, and my reputation is hinged upon that.

You have to pay a cert fee, typically $25 around here (covers any guns you bring at the time) then a $15 or $25 (not sure which yet) at the Sheriff's Office. I think it blows but the good thing is you get the add ons while you wait and leave with it. There is no application then waiting for the new permit in the mail.

Bingo - but the fact is, the Gov let someone down too. I'm glad I was not put in the position of certifying the gov then being asked to fudge it in the first place . . .

They tried to push it through with the revolvers. It failed. Whether it will come up again I do not know.

Personally I'd rather they spend their time fighting out CCW on college campuses....we'll see how that works out though...
