Recommend a BUG (Backup Gun) No Revolvers

Looking for a small backup gun for an ankle holster or small enough wearing shorts. It must be very reliable. No revolver recommendations please. What say you?

I am going to pick up my Ruger LCP tonight or tomorrow... how about one of those?

I say Bersa Thunder .380 CC. Great pocket gun (I don't ankle carry) in a Nemesis holster and mine has been 100% reliable with anything I've put through it for 600 rounds so far. I got the nickle finish and changed out the grips. The factory grips are...not good. About 50 bucks for the grips and $289.00 for the gun w/2 mags.

I'm not goint to tell you which to get but I'll give you a basic run down of the little ankle gun we have. Well I carry it ankle carry anyway.

Colt Government Model .380. basicly a minutarized (SP?) 1911 chambered for .380acp. Very small and a joy to shoot. It uses a locked breach (not common on small guns like this)and the recoil is extremley soft. Very accurate for such a small pistol. I have no problem holding a nice tight group at 15+ yards.

Reliable. I have yet to have this thing malf. on me or my wife. It also eats various brands of hollowpoints with ease.

Cons-
Heavy for a small .380 due to steel frame and added complexity of the locked breech system.

Tends to rust if exposed to sweat for too long though I just wipe ours down once a week and call it a day. I haven't really had any real issues other than the occasional small rust spot.

No longer manuf. Can't find new ones and used ones usually run a pretty penny compared to the small pocket autos that are on the market now. Parts and springs are still easy to find though.

I just checked it out. Looks perfect. Where can you get one of these little hummers?

Kel Tecs are tough to beat for the money. The new Ruger LCP looks great if it proves to be reliable.

Jet, if I may ask, why are you ruling out revolvers?

I've been wearing a KelTec P3AT (.380) in an ankle holster for years. This little gun has surprised the s**t out of me since I bought it, not only because it's more comfortable to wear and shoot than a snubbie, but because it's held up so well for something that weighs about 9oz and feels like it's going to blow apart every time you shoot it. I'm a revolver guy myself, don't trust autos too much but the more I shoot this one the more I come to love it.

Did I mention how light it is? I usually switch to pocket-carry when I'm outside coming/going home and barely notice a difference in weight when it's in the holster vs. in my pocket. Makes a difference if you're wearing it 9+ hours a day.

The downside of an ankle holster is that it's a pain in the butt to draw from, which is why I switch to pocket carry when I can.

EDIT - forgot to mention reliability. Except for when it's overly dirty or when I fired Speer GD's through it it's been completely reliable. Never had a jam when I've fired off my carry ammo.
