Is your gun an automatic? Ever had a malfunction?
Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com
Drill instructor convicted after rifle jams A drill instructor in the National Guard has been convicted in a Wisconsin federal court of illegally transferring a machine gun after a rifle he loaned to a student malfunctioned, setting off three shots before jamming. The verdict of guilty on one count in the case against David Olofson was confirmed yesterday by the clerk's office in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. That means now that anyone whose weapon malfunctions is subject to charges of having or handling a banned gun, according to an expert witness who reports that the particular problem is a well-known malfunction and was even the subject of a recall from the manufacturer. "Are you saying if I take my Great Granddaddy's double barrel out and I pull one trigger and both barrels go off, it's a machinegun?' He went back to … 'any weapon that shoots…"

I really hope this gets undone.
"In theory if" I had an AK where they sheppard hook broke and it went full auto on me. Do I deserve a 250k fine or 10 years in prison??? (or whatever they think is fair). Last edited by Fish609; 04-08-2008 at 07:48 AM. Reason: Edited so I am not a felon |

I've read this before, but I think its good its here, we all need to be aware of this.
The first gun I ever bought was an FEG 380, and I have found out after reading about the gun that the metal the de-cock guard is made out of isn't that great and after too many de-cocks it can fail and send the pistol into full auto. after reading that and reading about this case I have been VERY careful to make sure that I thumb the hammer down when I de cock instead of just letting it fall. |

If I was Olofson, I wouldn't have loaned out a weapon to someone that I knew had the potential to malfunction in such a manner (and in an AR with a third selector position at that). |
