I get so frustrated when these asshats refer to an AR-15 as an "Assault Rifle". I get so upset that I bust out in tears.

Here's the post i left...
A better title for this article would be "We have an irrational fear of inanimate objects." A handgun in the hands of a law abiding, properly trained citizen isn't an object of death, its an object of life. The ability for every American to be safe and secure is universal. I'm curious, since 2004, how many concealed weapon license holders have gone on a rampage and killed anyone? Zero. Its not the legal guns you need to concern yourselves with. Moreover, instead of vilifying law abiding gun owners who obtain licenses through the proper channels, why not crack down on criminals? They are the ones causing problems. It still amazes me that people truly and honestly believe that by banning guns in a specific area, there will be no guns there. The definition of a criminal is someone who disobeys the law. Gun laws only work on those who follow them. So if you ban concealed weapons license holders from carrying in your parks, that means only illegal guns will be in parks. And the notion that "assault" rifles are somehow more deadly than any other firearm is ridiculous. "Assault" features are safety features that look intimidating to feel-good legislators and people who don't know what they are talking about. For proof that anti-gun legislators don't know what they are talking about, I'll point you to this video clip of Carolyn McCarthy, author of the gun-ban bill HR1022, admitting that she has no idea what a barrel shroud is, yet she wishes to ban them. YouTube - Carolyn McCarthy Doesn't Know What A Barrel Shroud Is. Pistol grips give you more control over your firearm, barrel shrouds keep you from getting burned, collapsible stocks ensure your firearm fits you, I could go on. The only thing about these features is that they look intimidating. "Assault" weapons function the exact same way as other firearms, so the notion that they are somehow more dangerous is silly. As for the one that was illegally modified to fire fully automatic, well the person who modified it did so illegally, which makes him a criminal. Again, law abiding citizens with guns are rarely a problem. How many crimes since the expiration of the Clinton Assault Weapons Ban have been committed with an assault weapon? According to Assault Weapons, since may of 2007, assault weapons have account for .20% (yes, point two zero) of all violent crimes, and about 1% (one percent) of all gun crimes. Crimes with assault weapons are virtually non-existent. According to the FBI at this Site: Murder - Crime in the United States 2004, 13.7% (thirteen point seven) of all murders in 2006 were committed with a knife or cutting instrument. You are significantly more likely to be a victim of a knife crime than an assault weapons crime. Clearly knives are more of a problem than assault weapons when it comes to the safety argument, so why vilify assault weapons owned by law abiding citizens? After the sunset of the 1994 assault weapons ban, Republican Christopher Shays was quoted as saying "My leadership is playing Russian roulette," Shays said. "There will be without question a horrific crime committed without an assault weapon ban, and every member of Congress will have to ask where were they on this issue." It's now been 14 years since the sunset of that ban, and we are still without Mr. Shays' "horrific crime" committed with an assault weapon. Thats because there are extensive background checks in place and ownership requirements for people to own assault weapons. Criminals don't obey gun laws. Rather than creating more gun laws that criminals won't abide by, we need to enforce the ones we have. And instead of making it more difficult for law abiding citizens to obtain and carry firearms, we need to make it easier for them to protect their lives, their families, and their property. Educate yourselves, break your fear of inanimate objects. Guns don't kill people on their own. and not every gun is used for evil.

sent in a comment, but doubt that any of ours, especially out-of-state will be printed

So how about armed people... why are police stations safe then? Am I the only one confused right now?

I think there was only ONE anti comment on there and it was a half way anti half way pro comment about how he doesn't like semi-auto rifles. I posted a comment also under "Sgt. D".
