Is that most people tend to negatively reference the lifestyle. Yet main stream America simply eats up the slang terms and phrases derived from said culture.

How many times has Katie Couric said the word bling. Or the average joe who you know doesn't listen to hip hop saying "id like to give a shout out". How many of your friends say "I'm down" when they're ready/willing to do something. The list goes on and on.

Just a random thought I had.

good point...but remember...

there is nothing funny about rap culture. it is a serious problem and hopefully will be resolved soon!

All the good rap music is dead. It died in the 90's.

I dislike and do not use any of the phrases above. I have never given a shout out to anyone, nor do I give props. Never in my life have I gotten jiggy with it. Thats all I can think of that I don't use right now.

"Hater" is another one. Main stream America has run away with that term as well.

No help here. I took me 20 years to figure out where the hell "props" came from. I try to speak English as often as possible.

The 'man' has been stealing words and quotes from the more hip lower class populations for generations.

It just happens a lot faster now due to MTV. . . and that Rap videos have the most boobies viewers.
