I love Alice Cooper. Seems harmless compared to today's standards.

This is true. I don't listen to rap, and I quit listening to mainstream country back in the 70's for pretty much the same reason. |

At least Alice Cooper knew what he was doing was an act.
The thug fo lyfe crowd is not an act. It is a lifestyle, a poorly chosen one, but it is a lifestyle they adopted because it makes life easier for them. They don't have to try hard and work a real job. I work in a factory and they have a lot of temps that come and go. Their jobs are to literally screw the top on to a bottle. These people have no aspirations other than to put the biggest damn rim on their ex-police cars.

I have to admit I listen to mostly metal, rock, and punk music but I do like a select few rappers. that being said what I do not like about rap culture first and formost is pants hanging down below your a** with a belt on ironically I can't stand it pull your damn pants! up I used to wear huge ass JNCO pants when I skateboarded but they always fit me in the waist and never "sagged" its ignorant and looks stupid as hell. the second thing is the whole ghetto gangster ebonics crap when someone starts talking to me like that I just walk away with very few exceptions. oh and punk kids and young adults who live in the middle of nowhere but yet are somehow gangsta's lmao I just came from a middle of nowhere place and yet gang violence is up there lol they wouldnt last two seconds in the city a bunch of weed smokin pant saggn wannabes who think becouse they listen to rap they know about and live the hood/thug life! give me a break. sorry about the rant

rap is, indeed, in a bad state. and ill admit, i do listen to a good amount of it (but i listen to just about everything, from Opeth, to John Mayer, to Swisha House). what i like about it, are the beats / sounds (ie. voice going with the beat) and liveliness of it, more than the lyrics themselves. i hardly ever process the lyrics as anything of substance. i doubt that can be said about the blind following the blind type... but what can you do? they do what sells and dont give a fk about anyone else and this problem of not giving a sh*t about anyone is only gonna get worse as population increases. im not saying theres nothing you can do.. but seriously, what do you suggest? id like all music to have good influence, but thats just not reality.

Rap was good back in the day when they actually had something to talk about. Rap used to contain humor, humility, stories of struggle, etc.... Now it's about how much money you have, what kind of "whip" you got, bitches, alcohol, drugs, guns, etc... Also the new movement in rap music seems to be 'club music.' It's about the dancing now(see Soldier Boy) instead of lyrical content. There is no new rap that can touch the likes of younger OutKast, Eric B and Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest, and even someone like Nas...
