Outed...in class...with a knife!!
Ok...I am on my 3rd year of college...im not saying im a junior im saying its my 3rd year!
Either way its just a small pocket knife...about the length of my pinkey. and this girl said..."what is that?! you cant have that in here"...she wasnt being quiet either so i told her it was no big deal...she said "no you cant have that" so i ended up excusing myself from class just in case she was right. only problem is....I LIVE IN ARKANSAS!! cmon everyone carries a pocket knife. i know that no one plays with them in class...but im pretty sure other people carry them to school. my question is...can i really get in trouble for this? and if so is it a slap on the wrist or pretty serious now adays? |

Quote:
Arkansas 09-FEB-2007 -- The Arkansas legislature has repealed Sec. 5-73-121 of the Arkansas Code pertaining to the offense of carrying a knife as a weapon. Prior to its repeal, Sec. 5-73-121 had imposed a three and a half inch blade length limit on knife carry, and knives carried with blades over the specified length were presumed to be weapons under the statute. With the repeal of Sec. 5-71-121, implemented as Act 83 of 2007, Arkansas no longer has a statutory blade length limit for knife carry. So I don't think you should get in trouble. You might want to check out the school rules.

I would have disregarded the girl entirely. Honestly, we're all adults here. If you were going to stab somebody, you wouldn't be sitting in class minding your own business. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, but I seriously doubt you could get in that much trouble over a less than 3" bladed folding knife.
I carried a knife all through college... almost every day. Still do. Nobody says anything about it. Hope you can work it out. joe

This would be my humble suggestion as well...

stab her to shut her up, than tell the police its not illegal and she was infringing on your rights...your rights not to hear antis proclaiming their religious beliefs in public, also sue the school since they take federal funding but promote the religion of non-violence if they have a rule about weapons.
wacky lawyers are the root of many problems in our society, maybe they could be made part of the solution! Its one nation under God darnit! (oops wrong thread, related issue)

last year i was takeing class pictures at a little "hick town" in idaho and about every other kid had a pocket knife. even the principal had one. well the girl that i was working with was all freaked out she said she was really scared. but i convinced her it was by far the safest school we have been to. if some kid brings in a gun then the 30 kids in each class room will come at him with their knife or the rifles and shotguns they had in their cars. the principal was telling me that some of the kids bring their shotguns in their car so they can go hunting right after school.
but in college come on thats not a big deal at all. do they have a ban on pointed scissors? or sharp pencils? |

Buy her a cheap pocket knife and then tell her to report back to you in a month about how many times it came in handy for one thing or another. Just tell her she doesn't have to carry it in school if she doesn't want to. She'll get the idea.
My co-workers laughed at me when I first started because I always carry a knife (Ken Onion). Now I always get asked to use it. |

You said college, right? Don't worry about it. In high school, even though I think it is a little silly, they were banned. Yeah, every classroom had a set of those big metal scissors in the supply room, but a pocketknife would get you a few days in detention or a brief suspension.
