As far as I know, it's legal in Indiana but I have no desire to open carry in public. My concern has always been that if I was in a public place where the shtf, I would immediately become a threat and would therefore need to be eliminated by the bad guy first.

I can't remember where I read it but I saw somewhere that a cop went into a gas station that he frequented while off duty (wearing street clothes). While he was in there, someone decided to rob the place. The clerk, knowing he was a cop yelled, "You're a cop, aren't you going to do something!" He was unfortunately shot and killed. If it wasn't for that, he might have been able to wait until the right time to take care of the problem. That story has always stuck with me.

My opinion is, I think the less people that know you're carrying, the better.

I've been OCing on a regular basis in a less than 2a friendly county here in North Carolina for a few years now and I've NEVER been confronted by a Police officer or Sheriff's deputy.

For the most part the general population could care less that I carry. I've had a few comments here or there but it's usually people interested in what kind of gun it is or asking if it's legal to OC.

I have had ONE encounter with a Wal-Mart assistant manager. He asked me to leave and I did but after sending a e-mail and speaking with the Day time manager I got it sorted out and was able to educate her about the ignorance of the local LEOs about NC State firearms law.

your a good man Charley Brown, but I wont tell anyone, shhhh.....

I enjoy people like yourself that will take the time to try to educate people who dont know. I OC for probably the same reasons you do, and if someone does say something, I also try to ease their fears with a little knowledge or fact.

Hey turbo, that's great. I live on the west side of Indy and I have thought about open carry a few times but haven't yet. People get shot in my neighborhood frequently so I for sure carry it with me all of the time.

Reasons I OC

1)it's way more comfortable during the summer

2)no need to worry about having is concealed if it's not concealed (you know walking around always messing with you shirt making sure it's not showing the bottom of the holster and stuff like that)

3)Edumacate the general population that yes good guys do carry firearms everyday.

Just inside of 465, north of 38th street. Yeah, awesome apartment neighborhood with a "Lake". Thank God I'm moving down to the south side in a few weeks.
